Just saw 'Pirates of the Caribbean' last night. Johnny Depp does a dead brilliant Keith Richards parody with his character.

yeah - twenty years ago 'they' were saying, "Go see the Stones while you can, 'cause Keith ain't gonna be around much longer...."   Got to hand it to the guys, even now: every song they do is always 'right in the groove.' No other band can do that. Deservedly the best rock 'n' roll band, then or now.

I missed it as I had to work and now I regret not going!

I guess I'll buy the DVD next month!

How much press is it getting around the world?

We have guests staying with us from london U.K. and they said that the tickets were bieng scalped for 150 pounds!

Oh no! I am sorry you missed it. Thought we'd hear a rave reveiw from you.

I read online that they had over 450,000 500,000 people. The show lasted for eleven hours!

One report said there were people with t-shirts reading "I came, I SARS, I conquered!" As the concert was there to help lift Toronto from the slump caused by SARS.

It sounds as though it was fantastic. They are likening it to Woodstock, only one woman who bared it all was arrested as participants yelled "Let her go! Free love!"

Wish I'd been there!

My girlfriend's son went, with a bunch of friends. Won't be able to get a report from him till Monday anyway.

Saw a bit of coverage on TV of it. Looked like a good time. I was never really a Stones fan anyway (the best thing they ever did was include Ron Wood in their band), but there were quite a few other good bands playing I wouldn't have minded seeing.

And quite a few ladies going shirtless there too (which is perfectly legal in Ontario).

I talked myself out of going, there were lots of reasons not to. But when I saw the footage of Mick & Keif on tv I kind of kicked myself for not going.

On the Mighty Wind soundtrack, the folksmen do a wonderful rendition of a Stones' song...Start it up or whatever it is called...very hilarious...shows how truly ridiculous the song is...I especially love the line you can make a dead man come....

I have had two reviews from friends who went (I was never a big Stones fan even when they were within shouting distance of puberty), who thought it was great. The big hits were AC/DC and Blue Rodeo, not the Stones.

Peter T.

Last night as I listened to CBC radio's "As it Happens" they did all instrumental Stones songs for segues. Then I remembered "the event"!

Kinda cool. I don't go to those things anymore, not because I don't want to hear the music, but because I don't want to put up with the crowds. Been there (huge outdoor rock events) done it way too many times, and feel it best to let the kiddies go nowadays.

If I do outdoor music events now, it's always small events.

I am a long time Stones and Guess Who fan and would have liked to have seen them, but I have seen both of them before. I'm not a huge fan of AC/DC, but from what I saw on TV they stole the show. I did think that The Stones were pretty good too. The television coverage was awful.

I was there, and it was truly AWESOME! I had SUCH a great time yesterday! There was an amazing lineup of bands all day, covering until the Stones arrived around 10 pm -- lots that I grew up with and always loved -- The Guess Who, Rush, Sass Jordan, the just plain AWESOME blind guitarist Jeff Healey, Blue Oyster --- and AC/DC too!

Everyone was fantastic -- AC/DC did put on a great act, almost stealing the show with that Canadian flag underwear thing, but the Stones just blew them all away. They are just plain MASTERFUL -- at their art, at the magic of connecting with an audience, at writing truly timeless classic songs that are so easy to remember and sing or shout or whoo- whoooo-along with, as the case may be. Not to mention that drivin, gotta-get-dancing beat, raising this just incredible energy.

I have a whole new respect for ole Lips now! He was bouncing around that stage like a twenty-year old! Hard to believe he's 60 now -- still ROCKIN' -- even rappin with the younger generation, calling out "I LOVE YOU!".   Keith Richards, clean now (supposedly), broke down on his knees on the stage, spilling all about what it felt like to be asked back to Toronto after being arrested on drug charges many years ago.

The crowd -- the biggest in history for a paid event I think -- was amazing too -- that many people -- from Hell's Angels to librarians to grandpas to green-haired nose-ringed "punkers" to small children -- and no fights, no trouble at all. There was a feeling of celebration, almost of "global family", of comfort in knowing that even in the wake of 9/11, the Iraq war, SARS, criminal charges or WHATEVER we can still all stand together, support one another and PARTY!

Didn't see any topless girls, but I did see a lot of pierced navels and nipples (on guys!) and a very interesting assortment of tattoos.

Host Dan Ackroyd kept calling out "No BORDERS!" as he welcomed the many American acts. Didn't quite know how to feel about that ... and I was a little surprised to hear the Guess Who belt out "American Woman" after all that American-Canadian back-thumping and comaderie too!

It was a great day -- I'm so glad I went! Never thought I'd go out of my way to see the "Strollin Bones" ... but now I just can't get the tunes outta my head

I know --- it's only rock and roll
but I like it, love it, YES I DO!

daylia

PS Raptor, when they broke into "Sympathy for the Devil", I was just wishin you were there! Whoo -- Whooooo

Man, if I could go, I certainly would. What a trip to be at yet another Stone's concert. Hey, it ain't just seeing the Stones but the audience ougtta be something to behold, as per usual. Actually the last Stone's concert I saw was in the early 70's and I was real messed up... but I'm sure that didn't stop me from havin' a real good time....

You know, since I've gotten back into performinf lately, I have a lot of respect for folks 5 years older who can kick butt for 2 to 3 hours... 30 minutes into my set and I'm drenched in sweet and wonderin' what would have possessed me to do this...

Go see them. It might be your last chance.

I would...

daylia:

AC/DC, I would go to see without the Stones. High energy.

Rush, the same! Love base driven rock 'n roll.

Blue Oyster Cult.... nah.

Jeff Healey... nah.

The Guess Who... nah.

Then throw on the Stones? Hey, you got a no-brainer.

Like I said.... GO!

It was Blue Rodeo, a popular Canadian band on the bill, not Blue Oyster cult.

Like you, wish this tour were coming close enough fir this ol' hillbilly to make it.... Heck, I'd even roll me up a doobie fir it....

Anywho, thanks *daylia* - nice to get an eye/earwitness report!

You're welcome, Jeri and kat. And you're right Steve -- it wasn't Blue Oyster Cult but Blue Rodeo, so my apologies. I missed most of that act because my friend hadn't brought a hat -- silly girl! -- and after a few hours in the blazing sun in that crowd of nearly half a million people, she was almost passing out from heat stroke.

So we picked our way through that obstacle course of arms and legs and blankets and trash, and got the cops to let us sit behind the long line of tractor-trailers full of bottled water -- the only shade available. Spent the next hour bathing her with a T-shirt soaked in icy water and passing her Reiki (a Japanese form of energetic healing in which I just got my Mastery a few weeks ago :>)!!) and she recovered quickly, thank God/dess!

Reiki and Rock'n Roll -- who'da thought? It felt funny to be doing Reiki with AC/DC blasting out "Hell's Bells" though!

And I forgot to mention a band called the Tea Party -- they are so different -- not quite "death metal" but almost. They never used to be my cup of Tea, but after seeing and hearing them live I've changed my mind. Their music is quite unique, seems to conjure up these images of huge serpents writhing up from the core of the earth or something. Spell-binding! So if you're ever in the mood for something
dark and original, and you can keep an open mind, check them out.

Rock on, ye folkies!!

PS Bobert, you wouldn't even have to take the risk of bringing your own doobies -- there was enough smoke wafting through the crowd periodically to keep everyone happy if you did a bit of deep breathing! Hadn't smelled honey oil or hash in a long, long time ... and the cops and security people were friendly, just stood by and let people do their thing.

Alcohol wasn't tolerated at all though, and I'm grateful for that. Alcohol often makes people stupid and sloppy and violent, while pot just mellows them out. Worst thing that toking can do is put you to sleep -- then you'd be kicking yourself in the butt for missing out on those incredible once-in-a-lifetime acts!

Ahhhhh, daylia, from what you've reported, I think I understand why the cops were so friendly... Like thay had to breathe, too.

Reminds me of Lenny Lancaster's hippie wedding back in '70. Lenny was a big time dealer, who somehow never got caught, but not from lack of attention paid him by the vice squad. Well, the wedding was held at a farm just outside if Richmond on a Saturday night with rock bands and all. And, of course, the cops. Well, there was plenty of food with lots of *special* flavorin', if you catch my drift. Seems that the neighborly thing to do was to offer Lt. Higgins and his men some food, right? Last we saw of them, they had tried to back out of this long drive way and had their unmarked police car hopelessly stuck in a ditch...

Nevermind, and sorry for the drift, 'er flashback, 'er whatever. I think I got a contact buzz reading your last post...
