Well if we're all getting smited at the end of the month, I'm not even going to bother preparing my computer for the Y2K catastrophe.

Are you another member of "Procrastinators Anonymous", leprechaun? :-) Actually, the truth about Y2K is that it simply takes 5 years before the millennium bug takes noticeable effect! You have to be a software expert to understand why that is...but I got it from a very reliable source (the Internet)...so it must be true. Yes, on December 31st 2005 EVERYTHING is going to STOP! Jet planes will fall out of the sky and we will all freeze in the dark!!!

Worry, worry...fret, fret...

Of course, it's a moot point if this guy is right about August 31st 2003, isn't it? Hmmmm...do I feel better now?

Update: the guy is still outside the building downtown, but no longer has his sign. He's just yelling about the smiting now. So, if you thought the recent east coast blackout was IT, don't relax quite yet. :-)

I think Homeland Security should arrest God, just to be on the safe side. He could then be charged with a number of subversive things, such as, well...listening to prayers from people who aren't friends of America, and not preventing things like the big blackout, for instance. A little pre-emptive action by the USA could nip this whole smiting thing in the bud and make the Universe a much safer place for democracy.

With all this smiting and smoting going on, I couldn't help but think of a song from an record that came out in the Sixties called My Son the Folk Singer, put together by the inimitable Allan Sherman:--
Sir Greenbaum's Madrigal
by Allan Sherman
(New Words to Ye Olde Tune of My Ladye Greensleeves)

In Sherwood Forest
There dwelt a knight
Who was known
As the righteous Sir Greenbaum

And many dragons
Had felt the might
Of the smite
Of the righteous Sir Greenbaum

I chanced upon him one morn
When he'd recently rescued a maiden fair
Why, why art thou so forlorn
Sir Greenbaum, is thy heart heavy laden?

Said he, "Forsooth
'Tis a sorry plight
That engendered my attitude bluish"
Said he, "I don't wanna be a knight
That's no job for a boy who is Jewish"

All day with the mighty sword
And the mighty steed and the mighty lance
All day with that heavy shield
And a pair of aluminum pants

All day with the slaying and slewing
And smiting and smoting like Robin Hood
Oh, wouldst I could kick the habit
And give up smoting for good

And so he said to the other knights,
"You may have my possessions and my goods
For I am moving to Shaker Heights
Where I've got some connections in dry goods

Farewell to the dragon's paw
And the other swashbuckling games and sports
I'll work for my father in law
When I marry Miss Guinevere Schwartz"
Respectfully submitted for your amusement and amazement. . . .

God needs to be arrested for constant contradictions, and not bothering to tell us which the 'right' god to follow was.

God doesn't come out too well in the "reasons wars start" leauge either.

God's an idiot. If he loves us so much, he's piss poor at demonstrating it

You're putting the cart before the horse, E.d., that's your problem...kind of like the local drunk blaming the sidewalk for busting his nose and complaining that it's the damned breweries and glassmakers who are to blame for all his problems. :-)

Still, though, given the fact that the American government thinks much the same way you appear to, I'm really surprised they have not tried to arrest God by now. They must still be under the illusion that God is on their side. (sound of hysterical laughter)
