Subject: BS: Room Accomodations Hudson Valley From: GUEST,Gene Date: 07 Aug 03 - 05:46 PM Hi! I'm wondering if any of the folks here might have ideas for travel accomodations for 3 adults (we can share a room) for October 9th-12th weekend in the New Paltz/Poughkeepsie/Hyde Park area. Ideas greatly appreciated! |

Subject: RE: BS: Room Accomodations Hudson Valley From: EBarnacle1 Date: 29 Aug 03 - 08:39 AM Probably your best bet would be to contact the Dutchess County Chamber of Commerce. The area is just to the North of Local, so friends up there usually put me up. As a result, I don't have a handle on it. While there, though, don't miss the chance to eat at the CIA (Culinary Institute of America). It's the American Cordon Bleu. I presume you are going to Rhinebeck aerodrome and to visit the FDR estate at Hyde Park, as well as the other stately mansions along the river, including the Morse mansion in Poughkeepsie. There are also several good vineyards in the area. Some of them overlook the Hudson Valley and will give you an idea of what the Hudson River School painters were looking at when they painted. When the light is right, it's really breathtaking. |

Subject: RE: BS: Room Accomodations Hudson Valley From: GUEST,Gene Date: 29 Aug 03 - 11:34 AM Thanks for the response. We are going there to do a college visit of CIA, so plan to eat at least two meals there. We will likely just do a hotel, but we were wondering if there was any hostel or really nice campgrounds in the area, as we haven't come across anything. We camped at Letchworth State Park on a fall trip to Niagara Falls about 10 years ago, and it was just stunningly beautiful. The New York State Parks website leaves a lot to be desired! |

It is rather primitive but you get a chance to get on the water or swim or both. This is down by Bear Mountain, about 75 minutes away but very inexpensive. |
