Subject: Lyr Req: Second hand request for tune/song From: GUEST Date: 08 Aug 03 - 12:06 AM
its mabe not the topic you find here often (and maybe doesnt belong here), but its the best forum for traditional irish music i could find. Well I, just returned from beautifull Ireland with a tune I love very much, but dont know what the name of the tune is. Can you please help me with it? Its about an English soldier, wounded I think, wich meets a 16 year old Irish girl who is in the resistance and is willing to lay here life for her cause. Sorry I have no 'real' lines from the tune, but I hope you can halp me with identifing the tune.
The above request appeared on a board I frequent. As I've usually had luck asking this fine forum, I thought I would post it here and see if you could help. Thanks |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Second hand request for tune/song From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 08 Aug 03 - 09:17 AM There are probably quite a few songs based on that particular premise. Have a look at these earlier discussions and see if they provide what you are looking for: Galtimore Mountains White, orange and green That one is a propaganda song, and not especially old. Perhaps it has a fine tune; I've never heard it sung, I think. "Resistance" is rather a loaded term, perhaps best not used in this context; the whole subject is a very complex and sensitive one, and can sometimes lead to arguments and bad feeling. I see that you're quoting a message, though, and it looks to be from someone whose first language is not English, so probably they didn't realise. The title seems to vary. If it isn't the song you are looking for, let us know. If the original questioner could possibly quote even just a small snatch of it that would help. |
