Subject: NOT blues band "Morning Glory"! From: Steve Parkes Date: 18 Aug 03 - 10:55 AM No, indeedy. I was at the "BBC Gardener's World mag open day" at Unwin's Seeds in Cambridge on Saturday, and they have a morning glory cultivar named "Blues Band", which has three colour patterns in the flowers: two in shades of a pretty light blue, and the other in white with delicate blue streaks. The name caught my eye in the catalogue (naturally), but when I saw it I had to buy a packet. They'll look bostin' around my front door; and if they don't I can always smoke the seeds. I'll let you all know how they go (if anyone's interested), but you'll have to wait till next year for them to flower. Steve |

Subject: RE: BS: Morning glory 'Blues Band' From: michaelr Date: 18 Aug 03 - 07:44 PM Don't smoke the seeds -- they must be ingested. (I think... you know what they say: if you remember the Sixties, you weren't really part of them) :-) Cheers, Michael |

Subject: RE: BS: Morning glory 'Blues Band' From: C-flat Date: 04 Sep 03 - 04:47 PM The words "morning glory" and "blues band" seem at odds with each other. In my blues band days we didn't used to see mornings! |

Subject: RE: BS: Morning glory 'Blues Band' From: Steve Parkes Date: 17 Aug 04 - 05:22 AM Kat, you're right: they do sound pretty. Unfortunately, out of 25 seeds, 18 germinated, then 13 of the seedlings died; when they were big enough to go outside, 4 turned up their toes on contact with fresh air: now I have one left, which looks set to take over the garden on its own. So far all the floweres are white, no blue streaks. If it keeps going I might set it on to next door's clematis. Or maybe next door's cat ... Steve |
