The guy you want to ask about this is John Kaneen, folkie and presenter of a folk programme on Manx radio. I am sure there is nothing going on that he doesnt know about. He is,or was , a Mudcatter but I dont know what alias he uses so I dont know if he's around these days. His email address is johnkaneen(at)manxradio.com (insert appropriate symbol yourself). he is a very helpful guy.

Not so much folk clubs, more sessions and mainly instrumental with the occasional song - although singers would be welcome.
Tuesday - Trafalgar Hotel, South Quay, Douglas.
Friday - Mitre Hotel, Ramsey.
Friday - Tynwald Inn, St. Johns.
Friday - Liverpool Arms, Baldrine (Laxey) - check first, not regular.
Saturday - Mitre Hotel, Kirk Micchael - check first.
Saturday - White House Hotel, Peel.

In 1976 I spent a few weeks with some folk singers in the Isle of Man. I remember they played in a number of venues around the island, the Douglas Head is the name that I remember best.

Manx Radio played a big part in the folks scene ther if I remember correctly.

It's a beautiful island.

Timmy, the Douglas Head Hotel no longer exists, it's a block of very expensive apartments.

"The Liverpool judies, it was said
Were all to be found in the Douglas Head
McShane was there in his tie and shirt
With the foreign girls he was tryin' to flirt
Sayin', Here girls, I'm yer man
Oh the crack was 90 in the Isle of Man"

Cheers,
Michael

Just an aside, John Kaneen's programme is broadcast on Tuedays 9-10pm (BST) and is archived for a week here:
http://www.manxradio.com/
then go to "Audio Vault" and "Folk Show".
Last week he was talking about the centenary of Cecil Sharp's collecting of 'Seeds of Love'.
