Subject: BS: Trying to get BBC in Europe/Northern Africa
From: GUEST,Auntie beeb

I wonder if anyone has got any advice for me ?

I have heard the BBC are now brodcasting in such a way that as long as you have the right satellite dish you can pick up their signals for free. Is this working for anyone ?

I am planning to move to the Canary Islands soon, which I realise is pretty far down. The only info I can get there is from businesses that want you to pay vast sums of money; but I suspect it shouldn't cost quite as much.

All the BBC national domestic radio stations plus the World service are available on the Sky satellite transmissions, which you can recieve without subscribing to Sky. Sound quality is excellent.

Agree with RolyH, and also, if your Canary has internet connections (as well as Circles under its eyes!), you can stream all of the Beebs Radio output into your PC, anytime you like!
Having said that, why would you want to listen to the Radio where you're living?!
Happy to swap!
Regards Ralphie

Forget Europe! We could use it in the US of A where the government has control of 100% of the news.

I have gotten BBC radio since the first night of the first "Gulf War" excellent "AmRadio" reporting on multiple stations.

TELEVISION - can be done anywhere - expecially thrid world island.

This is a fun thing - particualarly if your are a teenager or retired - because, sometimes it can be time consuming.

1. You need a television set
2. You need a Pent2 or better computer
3. You need a satilite dish (inside or in rafters if local authorities are fascist.)
4. You need a half-way accurate method of positioning. (compass and sectant)
5. You need a "network card" this permits unscrambling the signal - a role that used to be done by the old-fashioned-stable-crystal....but are now "scrambled" on a regular basis, but are unscrambled by people worldwide within 30 minutes of the change in signal.,,,and quickly posted to internet sites

6. A small amount of technical understanding.

This German site is a good place to start.

My brother played with it for several years - when the home system "broke down" after the chips were altered and the dealer was busted.....he never continued....the family found that four-friends were better than 444 chanels....and they enjoy their evenings together more....without the interruption.

Sincerely,

Gargoyle

BBC TV is now free to air in Europe, only equipment you need is a Sky Satelite Box, [no card is required].
look on ebay or similar for the satelite box.

gargoyles message is confusing, in Europe, you do not need a computer or a network card to recieve BBC TV, the signals used to be scrambled, but they ended their deal with Sky and it is now free to air, see www.digitalspy.com for more info

The original poster is requesting information about how to receive the European BBC broadcast in the Canary Islands.

The Germans are good with satilite hacks/cracks.

Gargoyle answered the original question.

While it is a Spanish speaking/possession, the Canary Isalnds are off theWEST coast of Aftrica and generally NOT acknowledged to be a part of the European Continent.
