Direct from my studio "Subliminiminal Productions" comes a bumper sticker that can blend in with the bigots and progressives alike while leaving a lingering feeling of doubt.

http://www.angelfire.com/md2/customviolins/bush4.jpg

print, cut out and apply with 2 inchwide clear packing tape on the outside.

I found it lasts for a year with no problem and comes off much better that an adhesive sticker.

Why do we always want to compare heavy-handedness to Nazism? How come the fascists and communists don't get their fair share of the grief?

Well done, Donuel, but the lasting impression most people will take away, with only a glance, is the BUSH/Cheney part...no way do I want people thinking THAT is what we need. I know that's not what you meant, too. It's just the way advertising sound bites work...quick, the first thing they see is what sticks, ya know?

Maybe if you switched it around, so that the swastika "4" was upper lefthand corner with the bush/cheney following on the right? Wouldn't be as subtle, but would definitely stick with them.

Thanks for sharing,

kat

I agree with Kat...clever and inventive bumper sticker but I wouldn't want to give him the name recognition. Great idea for application tho...

Casual observer,

The opposite of conservative is supposedly liberal which the conservatives also like to equate with socialists and communists. Where have you been the last ten years when the non-conservatives were bashed daily?

Seeing this bumper sticker is kind of ironic in that I was just talking with someone last weekend saying that I'd like to see a paper that compares and contrasts Hitler's election and rise to power with Bush's 'election', the War on Terrorism, the Patriot Act, etc. I'll bet it would make interesting reading.

As they said on "Dante's Peak"...
Throw a frog in a pot of boiling water and he'll jump right out. But put him in a pot of cold water and then slowly heat it to boil and he'll swim around happily as he cooks to death.

Sorry to be picky, but if you want to use the symbol of the nazi's, wouldn't you have to slant the swaztika? From what I'm told, the swaztika itself, not slanted, is an accient symbol belonging to something like buddism (sorry, I'm not up on eastern religon history at the moment).

I guess that makes sense Chief, but I don't really like to see anyone getting bashed. People ought to be able to discuss their differences intelligently without resorting to name-calling.

I know, I only want impossible things.

Since we read from left to right, the text that newspapers want us to see first is placed in the upper left corner of the page. Ads go on the lower right, as a rule. Used to, anyway. If the "4 more years" can precede the Bush/Cheney part, it will mitigate the impact of having their names on the bumper sticker at all. But it does make it harder to use that blue field behind the names (and still keep it in a flag-like format). We've given you quite an assignment, but I agree, the swastika has to be more prominent to make it work from a distance. Position and size are the two elements that will do it.

SRS

Fascism is an economic system involving centralized control of private economic enterprise. As far as I know, neither Bush not Cheney advocate that the government control business and industry...in fact, their actions indicate that they are damn close to economic Libertarians. Neither are they Nazis (members of the Fascist party that controlled Germany from 1933 to 1945). The methods of personal repression and distraction from internal problems through external conflict used by the German Nazis, Italian Fascists and (to a lesser extent) Spanish Flangists, and that many people think that our illustrious leaders are just itching to use today, weren't significantly different from those used by Stalin and Mao, but I haven't heard of anyone considering calling them Communists! (Not that Stalin and Mao were Communists in the first place.) What Bush andCheney actually are is certainly subject to considerable discussion, but calling them something that they clearly are not does nothing but add additional confusion.

Back in 1972, the morning after election day, the University of Pittsburgh News' front page was all black except for the phrase, "4 more years".

Could you fix it so I could forward your bumper sticker to some friends?

I wonder how long it will take this thread to turn into a discussion of the origins and meaning of the swastika.

To forward the bumper sticker just send the URL and let them view it. They can save it with a right-click of the mouse.

This is the URL: http://www.angelfire.com/md2/customviolins/bush4.jpg

and here it is as a link.

Good analysis, Art. Too bad most voters won't stand still to think it through. This bumper sticker is simply jingo fighting jingoism.

How about one that says, "Just say NO to 4 more years?" Or does that need the shrub's name in there somewhere, too?

art....not quite, according to Mussolini....

"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of State and corporate power."

and art, if my memory, of old Social Study classes in my youth serves me, Fascism arose from the idea of Social Darwinism, where only the wealthy elite (the fittest) were deemed worthy to rule and the "lumpenprolitariat" were viewed as lesser human beings at the bottom of the food chain.

Interesting list by Dr. Lawrence Britt of what Fascist regimes appear to have in common.

Fascism is an economic system. Rule by the elite and a (very)underclass is found in many other economic systems in addition to this one, including feudalism, absolute monarchies, oligarcies, and so forth. The word provides a convenient label to place on people who espouse entirely different systems, but whose behavior (real or imagined) resembles that of Fascism's more spectacular failures.

I side with Metchosin regarding our current corporate stateism brand of fascism. It used to be politely called the military industrial complex. The MIC power is hidious given the phoney elections the US is now famous for and the voting machine software overseen by the CIA McDonel Douglas and other MIC officials.
