Well, the 1962 NY Mets' record as the worst team in major league baseball is safe for another year. The Detroit Tigers won their final game, which means they 'only' lost 119 games. Go Mets!!!
They were my favorite team in those years, because they played the way I played baseball - with intensity if not with success.

It just would not be right for another team to get the Met's record. The '62 Mets are part of U.S. folklore. Thanks Detroit, it took real heart to win those last two games.

Now about the Cubs! The 1989 Giants, with an heroic effort by Will Clark, fought back the Cubbies and won the NL penant. If they are not stopped soon, the '03 Cubs may win. It would ruin one of the best lines in Steve Goodman's "Dying Cub Fan's Last Request". We cannot allow this to happen.

As a SF Giants fan, I had many "wait 'til next year" seasons, but the Cubbies??? Go to their playoff games and sing Phil Och's songs. Do Something! Don't let "the door mat of the National League" ruin their status. They are an institution!
