Subject: BS: A Moment in Time From: Mickey191 Date: 19 Oct 03 - 10:11 AM Here's a two parter: Most of us have some regrets about a decision we've made. If you could change one moment in your life, what would you do differently? If you could change a moment in history what would you alter? |

Subject: RE: BS: A Moment in Time From: alanabit Date: 19 Oct 03 - 11:35 AM We have had this thread before, but I will add my own tuppence worth. In my own life I would change nothing, because I have been very lucky. In history, I would have made the Hitler/Stalin Pact public in a way which would have forced the press to expose two wicked tyrants. I do not know if it would have changed the course of history, but it may have been the best opportunity. Also I can muse what might have happened (or not happened) if the series of calamities which brought about the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand had been averted. One side of me likes to think that Europe would not have blundered into war. The other side can only speculate whether war was inevitable, because the politicians of the time were not equipped to comprehend the changes in the balance of power. |

Subject: RE: BS: A Moment in Time From: Mickey191 Date: 19 Oct 03 - 03:20 PM Did it work before? It was not intentional. What can I tell you--Must be te beginning of Alzheimers. Mea Culpa. |

Subject: RE: BS: A Moment in Time From: alanabit Date: 19 Oct 03 - 04:03 PM The personal one has been done before for sure. I just checked out the links. The one about which moments in history might have been changed has not. There are many Mudcatters whom I would like to hear from on that one. |

Subject: RE: BS: A Moment in Time From: katlaughing Date: 19 Oct 03 - 06:52 PM As for history, Mickeydarlin'...I think I would change it so that Mary Magdalene got full credit for being the only one to see Jesus arise, then we might have wound up with a matriarchal, or at least more balanced partriarchal dominant western religion!:-) Oh, and everything's been done here at least once before, in some fashion. There's always newbies and old-timers who haven['t weighed in or who've thought of something new to say! |

Subject: RE: BS: A Moment in Time From: Mickey191 Date: 19 Oct 03 - 07:07 PM Kat, Times being what they were (and still are) She probably would have been branded a liar. What's worse then a lying Lady of the Evening or a Fibbing Strolling Hostess. Alot of things are worse. And after Jesus appeared to everyone- Poor Mary M. would have been stoned to death. |

Subject: RE: BS: A Moment in Time From: JennyO Date: 20 Oct 03 - 09:18 AM What moment in history would I like to alter? I think I'd like to change that moment when John Lennon was shot. He had too little time to spend with his family, after he decided to take it easy and enjoy his life more. My personal moment? I'd like to replay that moment nearly 2 years ago just before I misjudged the edge of a top step and took a swan-dive straight to the bottom and landed on my wrist. It was so badly smashed that it's still not right, and probably never will be. Oh well, as long as I can keep on playing the mandolin, it's not all bad! On the other hand, you never know what is going to come of things that happen. Sometimes seemingly bad things lead to good things, so I don't think I would seriously want to tamper with any of it! Subject: RE: BS: A Moment in Time From: GUEST,Casual Observer Date: 20 Oct 03 - 09:58 AM Moment in History: September 11 Personal Moment: I don't know about that one. It's easy to say, "I'd like to change this," or "I wish I had/hadn't said that..." But when I look at those moments, in retrospect I realize that they led to something better, though it was hard to understand it at the time. |

Subject: RE: BS: A Moment in Time From: Forum Lurker Date: 20 Oct 03 - 12:11 PM History: Kept Wellstone, family, and advisers off that ill-fated plane. Anything before my birth runs the risk of eliminating me, and even if the 9/11 attacks were prevented, I think the political repercussions would have been the same. Personal moment: Most of the things that I regret are what I didn't do, rather than what I did. It's too hard to pick one moment in time to have done the right thing, instead of the easy thing. |

Subject: RE: BS: A Moment in Time From: Amos Date: 21 Oct 03 - 11:16 AM It would be interesting to eliminate a particular Supreme Court session -- or perhaps the string-pulling and influence-peddling that predated it -- from November 2000... Personally, I would eliminate a particular phone call from my personal history, if I could, and the bout with pneumonia in November 2001, which really dampened my outlook. A |
