Subject: Lyr/Tune? Wild Turkey by Lacy J. Dalton From: Lin in Kansas Date: 17 Nov 03 - 02:11 AM Hi y'all-- Wild Turkey is from an old (1980 or so) Lacy J. Dalton album called "Takin' It Easy" that I used to have on cassette, eaten by my tape player ages ago. Does anyone remember either the lyrics or the tune or both? I can't find anything in the DT or by Google search, and am hoping someone is a long-time fan of Lacy's and can help me out with their record collection. I remember getting a big kick out of the song, a tune about a hell-raising, hard-drinking, not-so-suave cowboy and a patient woman, but words escape me. As someone on another thread mentioned, I am suffering from CRAFT ("can't remember a friggin' thing"), which is a step beyond CRS! Any help will be appreciated. Much thanks, Lin |

Subject: Lyr Add: WILD TURKEY (from Lacy J. Dalton) From: GUEST,Gene Date: 17 Nov 03 - 10:11 PM found online at LCJ discussion site. I had one lover in all my life He left me high and dry But after I cried all my tears I learned how to get by Well there's been old friends to ease my pain Jack Daniels to name a few But I'll be damned if I go home With a wild turkey like you. Well I've been out with Johnny Red George Dickel has warmed my soul I've taken Southern Comfort To my sweet Kentucky Beau And on the cold nights Old Grandad Has helped me make it through But I'll be damned if I go home With a wild turkey like you. I have seen some losers Who could make a statue cry But boy, if you had feathers I'd swear that you could fly. Yes I came in here alone And yes I've had a few But I'll be damned if I go home With a wild turkey like you. Don't get the impression That I care about what you do But when it gets close to Thanksgiving I'd hide if I were you. Yes I came in here alone And yes I've had a few But I'll be damned if I go home With a wild turkey like you. I'll be damned if I go home With a wild turkey like you. |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Tune? Wild Turkey by Lacy J. Dalton From: Lin in Kansas Date: 18 Nov 03 - 12:35 AM Guest, Gene-- Many, many thanks! The darn thing has been haunting me, especially so close to Thanksgiving (arghhh). Lacy J. is sadly underappreciated IMO. Am busy transferring the cassettes I have left to CD, but had to throw this one away long ago. Lin |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Tune? Wild Turkey by Lacy J. Dalton From: GUEST,Dale Date: 18 Nov 03 - 02:30 AM Australian Country Music singer, Beccy Cole recorded "Wild Turkey" on her most recent CD, Little Victories. I must have missed the LJD version because I took it to be a BC original. She is known for her wicked sense of humor in her writing, and "Wild Turkey" certainly fits that mold. I just went looking for further info, and ran across this on the Lacy J Dalton Yahoo Group: I'm looking for the writers and publishing information about my favorite Lacy J song, Wild Turkey. I've just recorded a version here in Australia and need to include it on the cover. Is anyone able to help?? Thanks Bec And later, after getting the information, she wrote this: Hi Guys, Thanks so much for the info on Wild Turkey, my album's all done now. "Wild Turkey" is the only cover on the album, I chose it because I have always loved Lacy J's version, have been doing it live and always get requests for it. Merry Christmas to all from Australia. Beccy Not vital information, but I thought it was interesting. True to the way fan sites work though, one I looked at credited it to Beccy Cole. I have the Beccy Cole recording and will send it to Gene. If you are interested, Linn, drop me a line at dale8r@hotmail.com and I will send it to you also. |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Tune? Wild Turkey by Lacy J. Dalton From: Jim Dixon Date: 19 Nov 03 - 08:12 AM According to the AMG - All Music Guide entry for the various artists' album "Hot Country Rock, Vol. 1"—which contains Lacy J. Dalton's performance of WILD TURKEY—the song is attributed to "Moffatt/Sebert." BMI confirms that this is Hugh Moffatt and Pebe Sebert. There are several other songs with the same title, written by different people. |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Tune? Wild Turkey by Lacy J. Dalton From: GUEST,Dale Date: 20 Nov 03 - 12:11 AM Yeah, I just went back to Yahoo's Lacy J Dalton site, which confirms (I didn't doubt your research, Jim!) that it was a Moffatt/Sebert composition, adding the fact that Peb Sebert is Hugh's ex-wife. They also collaborated on "Old Flames (Can't Hold A Candle To You)", probably Hugh's best known work. I really wasn't checking for that aspect of it when I looked at the LJD site the first time ~~ sloppy research. Almost total sidetrack ~~ for some really good listening, check out Hugh's recordings on Rounder, two solo CDs and a duet album with his sister, Katy Moffatt. |
