Netherlands 6-0 Scotland

Roll on the floor laughing my ass off!

I used to support all the home nations. The "anyone but England" bragade have changed my view.

As such, I find tonight's scoreline hilarious!

A dinnae supose ye saw the match the did ye.The ref should have sent at least three o the Dutch off in the first ten minutes for blatant assault.
Oh aye we hit them back good and hard but a thocht it wis supposed ta be a fottie match no a boxing bout!

It should have been abooot 5 a side by the final whistle.

As fur the score well thats life and as Boab says thank the Scot fur whisky. My collection is sorely depleted after that farce.

I watched the first half wearing my 60's shirt from the days of Jim Baxter & Denis Law, i'm dissapointed but never the less still proud of the players. The late great Jock Stein instilled a sense of reason with the fans about Scotland being a small nation blessed with some good players but not being world beaters.I'm happy with that at least it beats the 'arrogance' of English teams (footie and rugby) where them (and fuelled by the media) say that they're the best, then when they show what they really are capable of, that is average performances, they then pounce upon them with venom when realism sets in.

I'm glad about Scotland, they proved that they can do it, when they won 1-0 against Holland at Hampden.
Good old Scotland oh by the way I support all the home teams except England, you know 1966 and all that.

Tom frae Saltcoats.

I just wish they woulds shut up about bloody 1966, mind you it was no bad year for 1 year olds.

Interesting that no one in this thread - except those apperently from Scotland - has actually mentioned it.........No one else would appear to ever need to?

They played very well at Hamden and started last night's game well too. Unfortunately the best defender from the Hamden game was suspended and this I suspect was the main difference between the two games. Scotland simply do not have great strength in depth and it is really no disgrace to lose to players of the quality of some of the Dutch stars.

Like most of us in England - I support all of the home teams and was as thrilled (all those years ago) with Archie Gemmell's goal against the Dutch as anybody. I shall always remember hearing how thrilled England's Bobby Charlton was too - for you could hear him shouting encouragement above the commentary.

English folk find it hard to understand why the Scot will support England's opponents at Footie , Rugby. In a previous Rugby World Cup Final, Will Carling (that arrogant pompous overblown prat) was apparantly furious when Gavin hastings and the Scots squad turned up at the final all wearing Aussie shirts. I, as a Scot, understand why the team did that as I've said before try a bit of humiliation rather than arrogance.

MC Fat,

Please don't compare attitudes of soccer fans and rugby supporters (at any rugby match up to 75% of those watching have played the game and fully understand the rules of the game - they are there to watch the sporting event. Unlike football support rugby is not tribal).

As a Scot and as a rugby supporter, I could easily understand the reaction of Will Carling and the rest of the English players - Why?

Rugby is totally different to Football, particularly in the British Isles - Ever heard of a team called "The British Lions" MC Fat? The make up of that team includes players from all the countries making up what is geographically termed the British Isles. The Lions, according to the statistics, are without doubt the most successful sporting side that ever leave the shores of our islands. Their tours are always against the best opposition available so they are hard. Their record is remarkable considering they take a whole array of players from different countries, playing different styles and in a very short space of time forge themselves into a cohesive effective team.

So situation in the World Cup Final you referred to was like 25% of your own club turning up at an important match sporting the oppositions colours - more a demonstration of a "F**k You" type of arrogance on the part of the Scottish Squad than arrogance on the part of the English, it undoubtedly was done as a joke, doesn't detract from the fact that it was a poor one, understandably poorly received by those it was directed at.

Don't really need to reply to this as 'guest' says it all !!
I for one support Football and generally want the home nations to win, the exception being as I've said when the arrogance takes over from ability.,, regardless of who.

I was in Amsterdam when the match took place. I don't think I've seen so many kilts. The Scottish fans were so well behaved and full of the joys of life and lager, they sang, played their bagpipes and were very good humoured. I was proud of my Scottish blood. Ok so we didn't win, can't have everything

Pat x
