Did I dream it or did someone of the above name contribute to a Guitar thread? I remember thinking it was a good name for a guitar player! I have done a search and cannot find it and looking to send a PM he does not seem to be a 'cat member.

Why?

Well, I'm no guitarist but I was browsing through the stock in a music shop I had not frequented before when I canme across a guitar tutor by...

You guessed it. Martin Taylor!

So. Are you there Martin? Is it your book? Anyone care? ;-)

Cheers

Might that be 'Guest/Martin Gibson'?

Martin Taylor is from Scotland and plays acoustic / folk / jazz. He has a great CD on Acouctic Disc called "I'm Beginning To See The Light". I believe the mudcatter has "Gibson" in his name.

Yes, Martin Gibson is the 'Catter's name. Martin Taylor is a great jazz guitarist who usually can be found playing not a Martin, nor a Taylor, but an archtop jazz box like a D'Angelico, Benedetto, or THIS Gibson Super 400 that he played on David Grisman's "Tone Poems" CD.

I've often wondered why so many musicians are named Martin. It's not an uncommon name by any means, but it seems that the percentage of Martins in the music biz is much higher than it is in, say, accounting. Did lots of dads name their firstborn sons after their favorite old D-18's?

Bruce

Ahhhh - That must be it! Thanks all - It would have driven me mad otherwise. Well, madder...;-)

Well, Martin's my middle name as it was my grandmother's maiden surname, no guitarists in the family, though a couple of professional pianists and my grandfather (on the other side) played banjo & mandolin when they weren't in pawn.

hmm..Martin is MY mother's maiden name, and I also was given it as a middle name...and I don't think anyone in my family ever TOUCHED a guitar...but I sure wish I was related to the guitar Martins!

(I have this silly line running thru my head...
"Martin said to his Martin, fie, axe, fie.
Martin said to his Martin, who's the tool now?")

Taylor made an excellent duet album with Irish jazz guitarist Louis Stewart many years ago - reissued on CD a while back. Lovely stuff.

David Grisman's Christmas album was finally released on CD after many years of OP vinyl. Taylor is contributes some nice work on it.
