Subject: BS: Another case of cancer From: kendall Date: 21 Nov 03 - 07:44 PM This is hardly a BS thing. My very good friend, Tom Rowe of SCHOONER FARE has been diagnosed with the same cancer I had. It is not fatal, and doesn't spread, but he will probably lose his singing voice as I have. I just hope they caught it in time to give him a better chance of saving his voice than I had. My original ENT dubbed around for most of a year commenting on the obvious with such satements as, "This is a mess, this might be pre cancerous, we may have to take another biopsy" etc.I finally got sick of this run around and got another opinion. The second ENT found a squamous cell carcinoma right away. Why the first didn't see it, I just don't know. I'm serously considering a mal practice suit. |

Subject: RE: BS: Another case of cancer From: Mickey191 Date: 21 Nov 03 - 08:06 PM My good wishes to your friend, and as Bobert said you can be a great support to him. I would emphasize the importance of atleast 2 opinions, sorry I didn't go that road myself. |
Subject: RE: BS: Another case of cancer From: Rapparee Date: 21 Nov 03 - 08:55 PM As a Schooner Fare fan AND as a Kendall fan, my best to both of you. Do what you can for Tom, Kendall, and both of you remember that there are a LOT of members of the Cured Cancer Club. And if there's anything I can do to help, PM me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Another case of cancer From: Naemanson Date: 21 Nov 03 - 09:40 PM Aw Nuts! I can't believe it! I hope he comes out OK. As for your voice, Kendall, you may be your own worst critic. What I've heard you do may not be up to your earlier standards but I wouldn't write you off. Keep on trying, please. |
Subject: RE: BS: Another case of cancer From: Escamillo Date: 22 Nov 03 - 02:27 AM My best wishes for your friend and for yourself, Kendall. As for myself, after having lost my dear wife the last year, I am in the tough process of quitting smoking, and trying to stay here a little longer for my sons. Last month I participated in a chamber concert and sung "Lazy Bones" and "Sometimes I feel Like a Motherless Child", first appearance in two years. Keep on trying, Sir Un abrazo, Andrés (in Buenos Aires) |

Subject: RE: Another case of cancer From: SINSULL Date: 24 Nov 03 - 07:51 AM From Mary in mothering mode: All the money in the world can't replace your voice. And the prolonged anger and grief of a lawsuit can cause irreparable damage to your psyche. For your voice to heal, you have to get past the anger and frustration and move on. That doctor knows he screwed up and lives with the consequences and fear of a lawsuit. Think carefully and do what is best for you. |
Subject: RE: Another case of cancer From: kendall Date: 24 Nov 03 - 08:17 PM Why do you think I have an attorney? so I can think for myself? Another piece of bad news, my friend, Ann Dodson, an outstanding picker/singer has developed Parkinsons! She is too young...damn it. |
Subject: RE: Another case of cancer From: bbc Date: 25 Nov 03 - 06:02 PM Oh, Kendall, I'm so sorry to hear this; I love Schooner fare! Please give our best to Tom. We wish him well as you know we do you, too. Barbara |

Subject: RE: Another case of cancer From: Coyote Breath Date: 26 Nov 03 - 12:51 AM Kendall, sorry to hear of Tom Rowe's cancer, glad to hear it isn't fatal. Help him through this. My lady friend had cancer of the thyroid, also usually not fatal, but it terrified her none the less and the fear was realistic since little c's can become big C's. Ordinarily I would advise against litigation but the foot dragging on the part of your ENT is inexcusable. This same woman was told that the apendicitis which she needed emergency surgery for was "irritable bowel syndrome". The medicos declined to have her scanned and relied on an X-ray! She is lucky. We were high up in the Rockies at the time of the emergency. Our local docs blew it. CB |
Subject: RE: Another case of cancer From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 26 Nov 03 - 02:23 AM My God, Kendall, you're a jinx. Stay away from me! *G* Seamus |

Subject: RE: Another case of cancer From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 27 Nov 03 - 12:20 AM Kendall, I'd sooner climb into bed with Sorcha over on that other thread than stand next to you. Get away!! Seamus PS Don't forget to convey my best to Tom when you see him. |
Subject: RE: Another case of cancer From: kendall Date: 27 Nov 03 - 08:13 AM Seamus, I'd be worried about you otherwise. Now, she has stomach flu, right? well, I'll put MY stomach up against hers anytime! (I no longer have diverticulitis.) GO SPAW, or JERI! |
Subject: RE: Another case of cancer From: NH Dave Date: 27 Nov 03 - 07:50 PM For Kendall - It might not be your first ENT's fault, since most doctors biopsy a bit and send the specimin to a pathology lab, which makes the final decision. Additionally the specimen in the first case might not have contained enough cancer cells to be detected. In my case my GP referred me to a surgeon who took one look and said that's cancer and we're taking it off right now. He did using a wide margin around the spot, sewed everything up tight and sent the mess to the path lab. A week later he shared the results with me - basal cell cancer - and that he'd gotten it all, a relief to all. I am currently waiting for surgery for a squamous cell spot on my forehead that is large enough that they want a plastics man to do the cutting so they won't leave a hole so big that my lack of grey matter might show. With the amount of time I have spent in sunny climates, this won't be the end of this story, but at least I get frequent chacks by savvy doctors. Dave |
Subject: RE: Another case of cancer From: kendall Date: 27 Nov 03 - 09:07 PM Giving him all due consideration, he still is guilty of "Failure to diagnos". He saw nothing too serious for most of a year, the second ENT saw cancer right away. |
