Subject: Visiting Toronto - Folk Clubs etc ? From: Kenny B (inactive) Date: 21 Nov 03 - 08:06 PM I have a friend who is thinking of visiting Toronto next year He plays in many clubs, mainly in Fife and surrounding areas in Scotland. Are there any suitable folk clubs, festivals , sessions where he can play. I have looked at "Toronto " threads and they seem a little out of date. Kenny B |

Subject: RE: Visiting Toronto - Folk Clubs etc ? From: jimmyt Date: 22 Nov 03 - 10:43 PM Also A club there called Tranzac club, I think for transplanted New Zealanders and Australians that is apparently a good folk venue. I think Hugh's Room is THE place though. Got this info from RIck Feilding for a trip I made up there last fall |

Subject: RE: Visiting Toronto - Folk Clubs etc ? From: Steve Latimer Date: 23 Nov 03 - 03:11 PM jimmyt, The Tranzac is the home of the Flying Cloud listed above. Very good room. Hugh's Room does seem to be the best of the bunch though. These are a little Northeast of Toronto. Vital Spark Greenbank Folk Society |

Subject: RE: Visiting Toronto - Folk Clubs etc ? From: black walnut Date: 23 Nov 03 - 03:29 PM There's a lot of good stuff I could tell you about, but I'd need to know dates. "Next year" is a little bit vague. I'm doing 2 house concerts at my place - Rick Fines Jan 10 and Katherine Wheatley Feb 14. Let me know soon if your friend might be interested in either of those, as tickets are disappearing. Acoustic Harvest Folk Club has really good acts about once a month. Hugh's Room is really nice but on the expensive side when you include supper. The Flying Cloud Folk Club meets almost every Sunday night, with wonderful acts, and one can find a seat there for most concerts at the last minute. There's also a Friday night song circle I could direct your friend to as well. ~b.w. |

From: black walnut Date: 23 Nov 03 - 07:30 PM Just to clarify - the Flying Cloud Folk Club meets at the TRANZAC club, but it is an eclectic folk club with many different styles of music - everything from bluegrass to singer-songwriter to Irish bands to old thyme etc. ~b.w. |

Subject: RE: Visiting Toronto - Folk Clubs etc ? From: Mr Red Date: 24 Nov 03 - 07:50 AM I looked in Feb There were two on Sunday - a partly Cape Breton session at the "(Bow??) and Arrow" on Yonge at about 3pm , and an Irish session in "Dora Keagh's" (??) (on Blore I think) starting about 5pm and running till they drop. I was told they were current at the time. As I was only there a week I did a session with family (Mutton Chops - a lapsed catter). There were some mid week sessions. There is (was?) an Irish Club so I presume there are things there but didn't see anything on the web for it. Scarboro' has something and Markham seems to ring a bell. |
