Subject: Origins: Drink, Drink From: GUEST,Celtic Soul, awa' from her home. Date: 01 Dec 03 - 06:23 PM Hello all... I have parodied a parody I found on the web set to the tune of "Lord of the Dance", and now (at the eleventh hour) we are trying to find out if there are any hints as to the original parodies origins. It's basically a "Rugby Song", handed around from person to person, group to group with no one I have contacted knowledgable as to who the originator was. The chorus begins "Drink, Drink wherever we may be" and most of the rest of it is re-written by me. Damn...it's been so long since I found this thing and bastardizes it, I can't even find the originakl parody on the web. I would be very grateful to any help anyone may be able to send my way. Subject: RE: Origins: Drink, Drink From: Cluin Date: 01 Dec 03 - 08:55 PM The Halifax band Uisce Beatha had one out on their Voice of the Voyager album over 10 years ago called "Drinkin' with the Lord" by Alan Glen Well, you can go here and you can go there And you can go just about anywhere And if you look it's plain to see The Lord of the Dance is drinkin' with me (With who?) With me! We were at the local watering hole And I said yes but he said no But before the clock on the wall struck three The Lord of the Dance was drinkin' with me (With who?) With me! He said Drink, drink, wherever you may be For you are the drunk and disorderly And you will drink wherever you may be Cause you are the drunk and disorderly (GO!) Next time we looked it was nearly nine We had as many; we were feelin' fine He said come on, it's time to go I said one more before we go (We what?) We go! He said Drink, drink, wherever you may be For you are the drunk and disorderly And you will drink wherever you may be Cause you are the drunk and disorderly (GO!) Next time we looked it was nearly two He said there's nothing you can do You've gone too far and now you're free The Lord of the Dance stopped drinkin' with me (With who?) With me! He said Drink, drink, wherever you may be Cause you are the drunk and disorderly And you will drink wherever you may be Cause you are the drunk and disorderly Drink, drink, wherever you may be Cause you are the drunk and disorderly And you will drink wherever you may be But don't drink with the Lord of the Dance said he *BURP!* (laughter fading out) |

Subject: RE: Origins: Drink, Drink From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 02 Dec 03 - 08:55 PM Another lyric for DT harvest...perhaps? A wonderful, fun, rolicking good tune and lyrics. Since the words "drink, drink" are common to both the songs....posted here.
from "The Student Prince of Heidelburg"
Lift your stein and drink your beer! Ein zwei drei vier - Lift your stein and drink your beer
Drink! Drink! Drink!
May those lips that are red and sweet
Drink! Drink! Let the toast start!
Drink! Drink! Drink!
All I ask is the right to see
Drink! Drink! Let the toast start!
An EXCELLENT midi (but awful lyric) is found here: http://www.wordchowder.com/drinkingsong.midi

Subject: RE: Origins: Drink, Drink From: artbrooks Date: 03 Dec 03 - 04:01 PM Obviously not this one: Drink, drink, drank, drunk I was drunk last night And drunk the night before. Tonight I'm gonna be drunk Like I've never been drunk before. For when I'm drunk I'm as happy as I can be For I am a member Of the souse family. Oh, the souse family Is the best family That ever came over From old Germany. There's the Rotterdam drunks And the Potterdam drunks And the goddam drunks and the Irish. Singing glorious, Victorious There's one keg of beer For the four of us. And glory be to god That there are no more of us For one of us Could drink it all alone-damn near. |
