Subject: Obit: Anselm Noffke From: Susanne (skw) Date: 16 Dec 03 - 03:58 PM It's sad having to add to the recent too large number of obituaries, but for those of you with an interest in German folk music: Anselm Noffke, founder member and right-hand man of Germany's second eldest folk band, 'Liederjan', died of cancer last Sunday. He was very much part of the German folk scene, a consummate performer (I saw him on stage three weeks ago, and though clearly ill, he gave the audience their money's worth), and a staunch member of our North German folk association. He was also one of the kindest people I know, with his quietness, even shyness off-stage hiding a wicked sense of humour. I'm sure there are many in Germany who will miss him in a very personal sense, most of all, of course, his wife and four teenage children. Should you want to learn more or refresh your memory, have a look at their recently launched website: |
Subject: RE: Obit: Anselm Noffke From: Wolfgang Date: 16 Dec 03 - 04:12 PM Very sad news. Their live performance was always brilliant. This was one of the groups that showed us that German folk music can be much more interesting and progressive than Bavarian brass bands, Heino, and the 'Volksmusik' culture(?) of the Saturday TV shows. They have taken Volksmusik out of the brown militaristic corner and given it back to the people. You've done great in your life, Anselm, and among the greatest was, you have made many people happy with your music. Wolfgang |
