To make my kids clean up after themselves! I've spent the day tossing and sorting all sorts of stuff in our sunroom where we do crafts. They're not to set foot in there unless they have a plan for what they're going to use and how they're going to finish the task and clean up after themselves.

Sure would save me a lot of work.

Had a car crash a couple of years ago, in an unlicensed cab, driver wearing carpet slippers.....long story, but we managed to hit the only car in the whole road, the road had been cleared for filming for the also fab Alexei show, and our cab driver ploughed into the bloke responsible for the clearing of the road,who was claiming expenses from the beeb for an overnight stay in a hotel.........when in actual fact he was dossing down in the back of the van.......we know, we hit him, well the van, not him, that would have been downright unsociable.

I know this guy with a couple of D.U.I convictions. The court ordered a device installed in his car that prevents him driving drunk. He has to blow into it before he can start the car and if his breath shows he's over the limit, the car won't start.

I see a couple of things when I read jOhn's posts. First off, I see a wonderful person, with a gregarious spirit, and a great sense of self. He is intuitive, funny, and I will bet he possesses a great love of people. This is a man I would love to meet, and hope to one day.

I also see the clues he gives about his problems with alchohol. He even admits to the problem. I hope this jOhn gets this under control so he lives long enough for me to visit him.

I also see folks who persist in pointing out what they see as obvious faults. I want to ask them to back off. It is not hard to see the obvious, and it does you no credit to fault him on these things. It does not show your intellect or your cleverness. It simply shows that you enjoy shooting fish in a barrel. It does require intellect, and a caring nature, to see the beauty in this person. I see it, and I like what I see. I wish I could spend time with John from Hull.

Does he get verbose? Sure. Check out my posts, Catspaw's posts, Jerry Rasmussen's posts, or even the posts of our GUESTS.

I like John. I hope he keeps his New Years resolutions.

Any of you notice jOhn's contribution to the auction? I am the lucky winner and will frame and hang it in my new home - a treasure from a friend across the pond. I have seen too much of the destruction brought on by alcohol and drugs to find humor in his problem. Booze is keeping jOhn from consistently being his best - our loss as well as his.
Please don't mistake this for pity. I have too much anger in me for what I lost to my family's drinking and drugs. I pray that jOhn finds the courage and the strength to get past this.

John, go jogging, swimming or whatever, keeping physically fit is important, but, if you think you need it, get help. There's plenty of places to seek help and you've got a lot of friends here on Mudcat for moral support.

The fact that he is here; enjoys being here, is a creative act in itself. Working whatever it is out through the printed word is what made Hemingway great, and it also more than likely that it keeps our jOhn off the streets, and out of all sorts of bovver.

My New Year's Resolution - again - is to learn how to play the piano, and learn some music theory. I've been saying this for years, but....

I had my first lesson yesterday!

It is going to be a bit of a challenge to translate from Celtic harp to piano, and back again, but I think it will be worth it.

What finally got me to get off my butt and ring up the piano teacher? I was listening to the man who lives next door practising his singing and guitar playing. He sings fairly well, mostly country style, but his guitar playing is just strum-strum-strum. I was thinking that I know a 3-chord wonder guitar player who could teach him some simple tricks to make his playing more interesting, and to include various rhythms.

Then I thought of my own musical plateau. My sister, who plays flute, and her hubby, who plays guitar, have both whizzed past me technically and I am left floundering.

So, I came inside and phoned the local piano teacher who advertised a couple of weeks ago in a local community newsletter.

It is probably not going to be as hard as I imagined.

As to the hijacking of this thread:

John, I think you are a good bloke, and I also think that hijacking threads to point out spelling errors is the height of ignorance. I started my career as an English teacher, and I now teach workplace communication, and my personal philosophy is that in informal communication situations anything is okay as long as communication is understood.
