Subject: RE: BS: 2003: A Year of Distortion From: Peace Date: 02 Jan 04 - 01:25 AM Thomas the Rhymer: I meant no offense to anyone who posted. The quotation was rather vaguely directed at the Bush administration and the continuing American difficulty in developing a socialized (universal) medicare system. It would require some spending cuts in weaponry, but it would provide good things to people who cannot afford the medical care they need. It ain't hard to see; it is hard to do. BM |

Subject: RE: BS: 2003: A Year of Distortion From: mg Date: 01 Jan 04 - 10:58 PM a year of distortion undoubtedly..but also a year of incredible hope for the future....a coalition of countries with such few resources themselves joining more developed countries to rid the world of a great source of evil...signs of some worrisome countries becoming more moderate...advances in alternative energy...some aspects of medical stupidity coming to end...in u.s...unbelievably low interest rates which translates to more housing for people...upturns in some economic indicators.. we shouldn't get all of our sexual pleasure out of doom and gloom. but that is just my opinion. mg |

Subject: RE: BS: 2003: A Year of Distortion From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 01 Jan 04 - 10:17 PM I took it brucie meant that, when some pretty smart people forget that there are limits on what they can do, they are liable to do something really stupid. Which has been demonstrated frequently. Of course that happens when stupid people forget their limits as well. When the two get together, they can come up with some real lulus - Blair + Bush... |

The minnions of mindless power and oil fame should be kept in the dark as long as possible about the Democratic dark horse... Subject: RE: BS: 2003: A Year of Distortion From: CarolC Date: 29 Dec 03 - 10:14 PM Here's my problem, Bobert. I've been keeping my eye on the Democratic field, and I find that most of them are lying to me as well. And that goes for Dean and Clark, I'm sorry to say. I might consider Kucinich or Edwards, but they don't stand a chance, do they? No matter who I vote for, I'll be contributing to something I don't want. |
Subject: RE: BS: 2003: A Year of Distortion From: Bobert Date: 29 Dec 03 - 09:20 PM This is old business... We know that if Bush is moving his lips he is most likely lieing. And lieing BIG!!! No tiny lies here but the real deal... so.... .... ahhhh, how many Catters are planning on stepping back from the pudders over the next year for a few hours a day to get him out????... Yeah, that's the question. There's more to democracythan complaining and voting! How many of you folks have visited with a single campaign office of anyone who may be running against Bush? How many have a bumper sticker on your car for the potential Bush retirer? A poster in your door? A letter to a newspaper? Yeah, it's fine to sit around and gripe. Get off yer butts and do something about it or you're gonna get another 4 years and abother 4 years and... Sorry about the rant but, hey, if I can get out there as a Greenie and work for Dean, then dangit, you folks can put a few peas in the pot.... We all know Bush is a liar of the highest order. He better than Clinton because he's to dumb to know he's doing it. Yeah, he is pathological in that he believes his own lies but, if you want him out, you're gonna have to work to get him out... Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: 2003: A Year of Distortion From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 Dec 03 - 09:06 PM It's a general practice, any time a service is being reduced, there'll be an announcement saying how it's gettig better. When a local branch of a shop closes there's a notice on the door saying how, for the benefit of customers, things have been rerorganised so that they will be able to make use of the services of a branch on the other side of the county. Same thing when a casualty service is chopped, or a bus service ceases, or a police station is shut down - it's always an improvement for the benefit of the customers. It's hard to imagine that anybody believes this, but I suppose they must or it wouldn't always be being said. And in politics the people who say these things seem to keep getting elected, though the numbers who bother to go and vote keep on slipping down. |

Subject: BS: 2003: A Year of Distortion From: Greg F. Date: 29 Dec 03 - 06:44 PM Interesting compilation of BuShite lies HERE Bit lengthly, but worth reading. And all sources are footnoted. Intro. excerpt follows: On December 13, the White House issued a document entitled "2003: A Year of Accomplishment for the American People." The document made various inaccurate and deceptive claims about the Administration's record over the last year. This report by the Center for American Progress seeks to correct those distortions, matching the White House's rhetoric with facts. Please note, text underlined in blue is hyperlinked directly to the original source material. DRUG COVERAGE WHITE HOUSE CLAIM: "The historic legislation the President signed will create a modern Medicare system, providing seniors with prescription drug benefits." FACT: "The new law gives private insurers the authority to ration access to drugs funded by Medicare. Beneficiaries will have to choose a drug insurer without knowing exactly what drugs that insurer will cover. Premiums will be higher in areas with older or sicker seniors." - American Progress Fellow Jeanne Lambrew, 12/4/03 FACT: "The Congressional Budget Office projects that 2.7 million retirees are expected to lose the drug coverage they currently receive through their former because their employers will drop such coverage when the Medicare drug benefit becomes available." - Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, 12/11/03 FACT: "[T]he insurance plan would provide little relief for about 3 million people with moderate assets and incomes near the poverty level and would cost seniors with drug expenses under $835 a year more than they currently spend." - Boston Globe, 11/18/03 FACT: "A substantial number of the 6.4 million low-income Medicare beneficiaries who also are eligible for Medicaid and currently receive prescription drug coverage through Medicaid would be made worse off under the Medicare conference agreement." - Center of Budget and Policy Priorities Report, 11/21/03 FACT: "The Congressional Budget Office estimates about 2.7 million seniors could lose benefits that may be more generous than those that will be offered under Medicare." -USA Today, 11/25/03 DRUG COSTS WHITE HOUSE CLAIM: "Beneficiaries who lack coverage will cut their yearly drug costs roughly in half, in exchange for an approximately $35 monthly premium. The more than one-third of seniors with low incomes will be eligible for even greater drug savings, paying as little as $1 per prescription." FACT: "[U]nder the new plan, seniors in the middle income quintile will pay an average of $1,650 a year in out-of-pocket expenses for prescription drugs in 2006. This figure is nearly 60 percent more than they paid in 2000, even after adjusting for inflation. Expenses are projected to continue to rise so that by 2013 middle-income seniors will be paying more than two and a half times as much for prescription drugs (adjusting for inflation) as they did in 2000." – Ctr. for Economic and Policy Research, 12/04/03 |
