Subject: RE: OBITS 2003 From: Peg Date: 31 Dec 03 - 11:11 AM there is one error here: Buddy Ebsen was originally to be cast as the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, but lost it at the last minute to Ray Bolger; the actor forced out of playing the Tin Man due to makeup allergy was someone else entirely... |
Subject: RE: OBITS 2003 From: Peg Date: 31 Dec 03 - 11:25 AM I find the little editorial comments by whoever compiled this to be amusing. I mean, just because he confuses Alan Bates with Oliver Reed, does that mean everyone does? And just because he does not like the '80s hits of Robert Palmer, well, the man won two Grammy awards and actually wrote and performed some great songs in his 30-year-plus career. His albums Secrets and Arc of a Diver are really very good. |
Subject: RE: OBITS 2003 From: GUEST Date: 31 Dec 03 - 11:33 AM Groan. Is there some way to stop these proliferating cut-and-paste obituary threads that serve no useful purpose for this forum--especially in the music section? God, I pray you give us a rest from the people whose obsessions with death and dying won't let the living or the dead rest in peace. |

Subject: RE: OBITS 2003 From: Peg Date: 31 Dec 03 - 11:52 AM hey Amos, that's jOhnfromHull and don't you forget it!!! ;) personally I enjoy observing the passing of great souls; it does not do to ignore or forget the fact that we are all going to pass, one day... memento mori |
Subject: RE: OBITS 2003 From: GUEST,Not Gary Stewart Date: 31 Dec 03 - 11:56 AM Wrong Amos. This is what I'm whining about, a blatant cut-and-paste of an entire article/web page with no musical relevance to this forum. Last time I checked, that was supposed to against Joe Offer's Secret Mudcat Laws. Of course, what is likely, is that we will see that particular law ignored in this case, because the person requesting the thread be killed/relocated into Mudcat hell below the line, is as popular as Shambles with the jackboot clones. |
Subject: RE: OBITS 2003 From: GUEST Date: 31 Dec 03 - 11:58 AM to SQUARE PEG in MUDCAT HOLE... Buddy Ebsen was to be cast as the original Tin Man in the 1939 classic film, but almost died from inhaling the silver dust. He was hospitalized and during this time the role went to Jack Haley. Buddy Ebsen had yearly recurrent bronchitis due to inhaling this silver paint dust. If you listen closely to the song where the group of characters goes down the Yellow Brick Road singing, you can hear Buddy Ebsen"s voice.... |

Subject: RE: copy 'n paste OBITS 2003 From: GUEST Date: 31 Dec 03 - 03:14 PM Good question there Clinton. Goes along with my good question about why was a Joe No-No violation (cut-and-pasting of off-topic articles to the forum, ESPECIALLY by guests) allowed to remain in the music forum. The personal attack thing has always been selective. It's perfectly fine to engage in personal attacks against guests. The only attacks the jackboot clones censor are ones against members. No double standard there, though. Actually, I think the jackboot clones are up to about a quadruple standard at this point. Being drunk on power apparently does that to some people. |
Subject: RE: copy 'n paste OBITS 2003 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 31 Dec 03 - 05:42 PM It's impossible to make a personal attack against a nameless GUEST, any more than it's possible to make a personal attack agianst someone who writes an anonymous letter. For example: "GUEST is a really interesting person who says interesting things, and I wish whoever it is would stick around and adopt some kind of handle to make communication easier; on the other hand GUEST is an objectionable little swine, and I wish whoever it is would just get lost." |
Subject: RE: copy 'n paste OBITS 2003 From: Clinton Hammond Date: 31 Dec 03 - 05:58 PM "It's impossible to make a personal attack against a nameless GUEST" That's just so much BS and you know it... |
Subject: RE: copy 'n paste OBITS 2003 From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 31 Dec 03 - 07:00 PM I don't have any problem with this type of copy and paste list. It's traditional to reflect on those we've lost during the year as it comes to an end. There are always a few people on any such list whose passings I had missed. And trying to edit such a list to fit the scope of this forum would have to be a fruitless endeavor since no two members agree on what that scope is anyway. Personally, I would have rather seen a list pulled from someplace besides the Dead People Server. I find their attitude to be a little too flipant and casual considering the nature of their chosen subject, but that's a matter of taste, isn't it? Bruce |

Subject: RE: copy 'n paste OBITS 2003 From: Peace Date: 01 Jan 04 - 06:38 PM The freakin' thread is less than a day old and someone's already asking why it hasn't been re-posted as a BS thread. Jaysus, take a valium. Give the boy some time. Happy New Year, Joe. BM |

Subject: RE: copy 'n paste OBITS 2003 From: GUEST,perplexed Date: 02 Jan 04 - 09:40 AM After reading this thread, I'm not sure which is more depressing, the list of those who have passed this past year, or the difficulties that the rest of the living here are having getting along with one another. |
Subject: RE: copy 'n paste OBITS 2003 From: Jeri Date: 02 Jan 04 - 10:21 AM If you like this sort of thing, here is The Dead People Server from whence the article came. It might have been better to link to their 2003 page, but I ain't gonna worry about it. Couple folks gone I missed hearing about through the year. |
