Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: SueB Date: 06 Feb 04 - 01:30 PM I'm trying hard to understand the concept of hairy nipples, hairy enough to require shaving, at any rate. I have seen, and heard of, small amounts of hair growing out of the skin immediately surrounding the nipple, but... What a hell of a place to have stubble. I admit I'm behind the times, but is this a new fad? Like tongue-splitting, or something? And why would this area outside the nipple need shaving when it is the nipple itself which is pierced? I'm so confused. I feel a little as though the very foundations of my world have been rocked. I think I have to go lie down. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Liz the Squeak Date: 06 Feb 04 - 04:49 AM Shaving nipples? Imagine plucking them!!! (I'm given to understand by a TS friend that there are some very fine depilatory creams available for the more "sensitive" areas) Be very careful of tatooists and eyebrows. A woman I worked with had some tatooed on and now wears a permanent look of cartoon surprise. She looks like she sat on an umbrella which then opened. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Kim C Date: 01 Feb 04 - 10:16 PM Dianavan, I have never tattooed my face, BUT I understand that a lot of people have had good luck with the tattooed eyebrows. Some tattoo artists have training in cosmetic tattooing but I think a lot of that is done in dermatologists' offices and the like. Pencil isn't so bad, though - you can even buy eyebrow stencils! |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: dianavan Date: 01 Feb 04 - 12:33 PM lady penelope: Thanks for reminding me that my face is still changing! I never thought about that when considering a tatoo. Whew! You saved me from making a serious mistake. d |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: lady penelope Date: 31 Jan 04 - 06:58 PM Ah the menopause. Yes, your eyebrows have probably fallen out because of your wildly see-sawing hormones. (My eyelashes have always fallen out at that time of the month........go figure). I think I would go for the "drawing them in" option as they may well grow back once your hormones settle down again. I have no idea how long that will take ( how long's a piece of string - type problem ) so I don't know how long you can put up with doing that. Also, although I have several tattoos, I'd be really nervous about someone tattooing my face! Especially across a bony part (ouch!) and you could really damage the hair folicals. It's also an area of skin that will be changing quite a lot over the next decade. That would affect any tattoo you had. Your 'eyebrows' could end up a very different shape than what they started as!!!! Oooh! I've just had an idea. Maybe you could get them henna'd on? That way you don't have to draw them on every day, but you're not left with the problems of permanence. Whaddya think? TTFN Lady P. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: dianavan Date: 31 Jan 04 - 06:39 PM Maybe we should change this to the question of plucking and/or hair loss. Is that allowed? A few years ago when I was experiencing the dreaded menopause, I broke out in a "night sweat". As I was washing up the next morning, I noticed that half my eyebrows were missing. All that remained were these little tufts. My friend said it was because I had plucked them so much when I was younger. She said I had destroyed the folicle. But I never plucked that part! I'm convinced that my body temperature was so hot that they simply burned off. Oh well, now I have to draw them on every morning. I'm considering having them tatooed. What would be better: tufts, pencil lines or tatoo? |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: GUEST,Van Date: 30 Jan 04 - 03:11 PM Kim C Ruskin - the English scholar who Ruskin college Oxford is named after - was so shocked, after a lifetime looking at naked classical statues, to find,on his wedding night, that women had pubic hair he was unable to consumate his marriage. (And I believe that's the way it stayed.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Kim C Date: 30 Jan 04 - 12:30 PM Well, Fred, I'll guess that it's become so common for women to shave their armpits, that some people are shocked and amazed when they see one who doesn't. It's a personal choice. What other women decide about their body hair is entirely up to them. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Sam L Date: 30 Jan 04 - 12:13 PM What's still an interesting question is the original one--why some people seem to care so much about what other people do. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: dianavan Date: 29 Jan 04 - 03:45 PM Being a hairless wonder at age 14 I really didn't need to shave but my "home ec." teacher told us it was a sign of good grooming, so I did. My mom had a bloody fit and screamed that now I would have to shave for the rest of my life because it would grow back all coarse and dark. Besides that, she said, "Don't you know that Hitler's girlfriend, Eva, started that fad? Hitler associated hair with the lower orders, so Eva started shaving. So now your lookin' for a boyfriend like Hitler?" Needless to say, I gave it up. Useless exercise. Depends on what you like - soft or scratchy - take your pick. Has nothing to do with sophistication. Has more to do with social pressure and trying to look as white as possible. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: GUEST,Ely Date: 22 Jan 04 - 10:59 PM I prefer shaved simply because it minimizes the sweat/BO that are pretty much inescapable for most of the year in South Texas. It's more work for me, but it's not as much work as pre-washing the underarms of my shirts so they don't stain. I shave the legs, too, but less often. I'm not into body hair that much, anyway, on anybody. My last boyfriend had nice soft, blond, unobtrusive body hair. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Sam L Date: 21 Jan 04 - 11:07 AM I'm not sure what connection I was trying to make above. I think it's kind of like car alarms. If you have a car alarm, you might ask yourself: Why? And what kind of person are you, that you host such a noisy ugly and utterly useless piece of crap? Shaving pits is something one might like to do, or like the look of, without bothering anyone. But why do some people go off like car alarms if some women don't? What kind of people are they? Cultural car-alarmists. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Sam L Date: 20 Jan 04 - 01:07 PM Romans, Guest? I think that theory would need elaboration to fit in time and space. The postmaster had some influence on pubic hair for awhile--didn't like it, not one bit. Saftey razors are pretty handy whether companies profit or not. But why do they keep making lousy cars? It's not a new thing they have to work the bugs out of, they've made good ones, why not build on that? And why does my printer cartridge run out in bits and spurts? Why can't it print good pictures til it dies instead of thirty that run out partway across the page? |
