Well gol danged. Those wacky Republicans...

Today the Omnibus spending bill was passed. There's so much Republican pork in this bill that it makes the worst of the Demos pork packages look miserly responsible...

Yeah, who cares?

Well, our kid and their kids and the baby boomers which are very likely going to be surprised when it's their turn at programs such a Social Security and Medicare.

"Oh, we're real sorry but, ahhh, we're broke....."

But to add injury to insult the Omnibus bill also goes beyond that in sneaking thru some purdy corporate friendly legislation that can only hurt the US.

Yeah, Rupert Murdock and Fox and Disney are real happy tonight. The FCC regs that they wanted adjusted so they can collectively reel in media ownership was included.

The "overtime" policies that the Department of Labor (what a joke, they outh to call it the Department of Management) that corporataions wanted are in it. So up to 7,000,000 folks have just been declassified to "slave".

And the NRA did very well also with the 90 day period for the FBI to take purchased guns out of the hands of criminal and terrorists being reduced to 24 hours... After which the record of the gun purchase gets run thru the shreader. Hmmmmmm? Hoe is this gonna make us safer?

These people who have laid sige on out kids futures and on our governent are evil, evil, evil. This is way beyond politics as usual. These people are gonna screw up this country so bad that it will choke in corruption and irresponsible deficit spending...

Screw 'em....

What is the point of this piece of legislation - to give no-goodniks more time to commit crimes? Or is it so that the NRA possee can catch the baddies & fill 'em full of lead?

Can you pls explain to an outsider what the labor policies are. All the other bits appear self explanatory (our Govt gives way to media moguls, too).

We've heard about (US) Medicare's problems - our Govt is trying to negotiate a (so-called) Free Trade Agreement & the US Pharmacutical industry is trying to make our pensioners pay higher prices for medicines as they are highly subsidised. [A strong prescription painkiller $2.50 for a pensioner, rest of us pay $13.00]

Well, sandra, I'm not sure what your question is but I'll take a shot at it.

Back around 100 years ago labor organized into unions and used leverage, including strikes, against management in order to achieve living wages.

This served labor very well up until about 20 years ago when management decided if it put enough money into buy the governemnt then it could perhaps turn back the clock a little.

Well, the plan worked to perfection and this Omnibus Funding legislation is the smoke from the flame from the candle on the cake. It, in essence says, "We're the Boss! You ain't! Now get yer ass back in the cotton field!"

You're going, "Hunh?"

Well, deep within this *Appropriations Bill* were all kinds of policy changes. The "overtime" change will stripe approximately 7,000,000 workers of overtime pay. Yeah, Boss Hog can work 'em as much as he wants now, just like the overseers did back in the days of slavery.

The NRA policy change is equally rotten and will 100% certainly make America more dangerous as it will drasticlly cut down on the FBI and loacl law enfocement agencies the time they need to get recently purchase guns out of the hands of crimanls and would-be terrorist.

As for perscription drugs? We have our own problems with a new Medicare bill that was primarilly written by the drug companies and the insurance companies. It has this absolutle nighmare provision called the "doughnut hole" where you are covered, than you aren't, then you are, then you're kindof covered. It will be impossible to administer and will confuse the heck out of everyone. Who will benefit? But the drug companies, who contributed millions to Bush's campaign, will do very well!!! The insurance companies, who contributed millions to Bush's Campaign, will do equally well!!!

The senior citzens? Probably not too well at all....
