Hope we get to hear something before I have to go out, which would be 3p Mudcat time...*hint*...*hint*....thanks, Sins, seriously, for being there and keeping us up to date. And, to the rest of you who are there and had a chance to report in, too. |

Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: JennyO Date: 02 Feb 04 - 11:00 AM I remember a little rhyme from when I was a kid: A one l lama, he's a priest A two l llama, he's a beast But I will bet you a cat's pajama There isn't any three l lllama. We're surrounding you with love and light, Kendall. Come back safely and soon! Jenny |

Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: GUEST,Uncle Jaque Date: 01 Feb 04 - 11:20 PM Ye Gads, Mon! Just got home from an old Girlfriend's funeral up in NH (she was a Career Educator and Artist; 53 - Cancer), and check in on the ol' Cat after an absence of some time... and gadzooks already! As I lingered in the Church sanctuary this afternoon after the standing-room-in-the-back packed-out services (the same Church I used to attend on occasion with my Parents some 40 years ago) and noticed the urn in between the flowers on the altar, Kendall's rendition of "Ashes on the Sea" came to mind rather strongly, and was poigiantly descriptive of my feelings at the moment. Although thankfully this latest Kendall-Drama seems to be on a positive course, and the prognosis looks good, the prayers of this conservative Yankee Baptist will be with the good Captain Monday Morning, to be sure. A week ago Saturday Aunt Mah'thah & me and Sister-In-Law Kathi went up to see Fred & Julia in a Robert Burns commemerative concert in Brunswick, backed up by another very talented couple whose names I have forgotten already. Met Jets up there and inquired of Friend Kendall, and he brought me up to speed on the planned trip to Ye Auld Countyerie. Hope that it will still be a "go" and that a grand time is had by all. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: SINSULL Date: 01 Feb 04 - 07:47 PM I visited today too. Went past the Nurses'Station and overheard a young, buxom lady in white telling of her impending trip to England with Captain Morse. Incredible! Hope Terri can accomodate two - or more if he gets carried away with the morphine. He is scheduled to go down to surgery at 6:30 AM EST Monday. Group prayers, candles, chants, etc. are in order. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 01 Feb 04 - 06:04 PM Kendall's "Rollin' Home" is on Record Lady (Real Country (!) p. 21. Yup, a real cowpuncher. Just find a nice night nurse (oops, here come the PCs). |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Mudlark Date: 01 Feb 04 - 05:48 PM Hi Kendall...just to let you know I'm sending good thots every day. Cant hurt, might help. May the force be with you! |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Brían Date: 01 Feb 04 - 12:41 PM I stopped in to see Kendall briefly this morning. He seemed in good spirits. He is doing a good job of keeping his roommate and nurses entertained and on their toes. He was on Mudchat on the computer in the hall when I came and had 2 phone calls while I was there but seem to appreciate all visits and wishes. Brían |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Rapparee Date: 01 Feb 04 - 11:40 AM Think we could get him into red pants, red socks, and Mary Janes? Without ropes and chains, I mean? |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Amos Date: 01 Feb 04 - 11:34 AM I like this one. Although I don't think we'd ever get the Skippuh to hold still for a photo hugging it...I can dream, can't I?? LOL! A |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: MAG Date: 01 Feb 04 - 11:00 AM Annie, there's a lot of experience with this thing among us boomers. Aging really isn't for sissies, but fortunately, older gets better at dealing with stuff. Kendall, all good thoughts flowing your way. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Annie Date: 01 Feb 04 - 09:55 AM Wow! There's a lot of first hand experience with this thing among folkies. Is it too late for me to switch to rock 'n roll? With all this good advice on how to win friends and influence caretakers, I expect your recovery will be charmed if nothing else. Gotcha covered in my thoughts and prayers. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Peg Date: 01 Feb 04 - 08:39 AM I spoke with Kendall briefly last night. He is in very good spirits as you can read from his messages...there does seem some danger of boredom overtaking him (heck, it's a hopsital), although he say she's had guests coming in and out and has enjoyed that immensely... Imminent surgery did not prevent him from making a couple of choice comments about Resident Bush... he's gonna be fine. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: JennyO Date: 01 Feb 04 - 08:11 AM Aw, they are SO CUTE! The real live ones are pretty cute too, but it wouldn't do to cuddle them. Kendall, I have a Spirit Guide, Angel Erica, who helped me when I broke my wrist a couple of years ago. I'm sure she wouldn't mind me sending her to watch over you for a while. I'm doing pretty well these days. Love and {{{{{{hugs}}}}}} from Jenny |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: katlaughing Date: 01 Feb 04 - 08:00 AM Ah, thanks for fixing the link, Tink. I recehecked mine, not sure what was wrong. Anyway, it was an alpaca I see, so it wasn't exactly the right thing anyway. At least the biggest one I saw on there, was..it's the one with the little girl.:-) |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Tinker Date: 01 Feb 04 - 07:33 AM A whole page of stuffed llamas Maybe this will work. I'm wondering if Cherry Sue Llama should help supervise recovery. Teddy Bears look much more cuddly. Love Ya Kendall, tinker |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: freda underhill Date: 01 Feb 04 - 06:51 AM hi Kendall i had to go under some years ago. when i came out, in the morphine haze i thought i was surrounded by angels.. later i recognised the faces of someof those angels as they wandered around the awrds tending to people! i will be thinking of you & sending you best wishes in your morphine dreams... freda |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: open mike Date: 01 Feb 04 - 02:00 AM the stuffed animal link is not working... best of luck in the morning, my friend.. i will knock on wood, cross my fingers, and send you virtual four leaf clovers! I am imagining you there with a lap top or something, plugging in your computer and connecting with this whole community of well-wishers, and the nurses are going to wonder what in the heck you are up to! |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: katlaughing Date: 01 Feb 04 - 01:09 AM 36-40" tall llama from Bolivia! (expensive, but cute:-) That led to a new BS thread..."A whole lotta Lamas ala Dalai." Be sure to check it out.**bg** |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Art Thieme Date: 01 Feb 04 - 12:53 AM For me being in the hospital and having surgery after surgery (after surgery) after surgery was the closest thing I ever had in 40 years as a folksinger to a paid vacation. I came to see the various hospitals pretty much as sadistic spas. Kendall, I do hope you have vacation insurance !! But watch out for those damn pre-existing vacations. The damn insurance guys won't pay for those. Yeah, I know they're wrong---but what can a fellow do?? Push that button and get all the drugs you can pump into yourself. After surgery, it's perfectly legal !!!!!!! ENJOY Art Thieme |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Stilly River Sage Date: 31 Jan 04 - 11:47 PM I did a web search also--the only stuffed ones are so small as to not really be useful. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: katlaughing Date: 31 Jan 04 - 11:39 PM No stuffed llamas here, but we can get a stuffed, cuddly antelope from Wyoming if that'll do in a pinch?!**bg** Kendalldarlin'....I know you'll come through with flying colours. You are an inspiration, Cap'n and give me courage. luvyakat |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: jets Date: 31 Jan 04 - 09:33 PM I hate to be selfish but I am a litle upset over the fact that I had to eat lunch alone Friday. Some people will do the damdest thing to get out of a comitment |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Dan Schatz Date: 31 Jan 04 - 07:26 PM Kendall, would you cut it out? This sort of behavior is getting tiresome! What? You didn't go out and choose to need triple bypass surgery just for fun? I don't believe a word of it. Nevertheless, you have my best wishes (Geeta's too) for a speedy recovery and a lot less time spent in hospitals. Try to go easy on the chaplains. Love, Dan Schatz |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Peace Date: 31 Jan 04 - 07:18 PM I'll second that, Kendall. All the best to you, buddy. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Rapparee Date: 31 Jan 04 - 07:15 PM Hey, Kendall, next time I'm in the hospital, you can be my roomie. I know something about the W-A Treaty!!! Good luck tomorrow, young fella. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 31 Jan 04 - 06:40 PM Mary, I may be able to comply! I'll check the shop on Monday and let you know (closed Sundays and too late now!) Allison |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: SINSULL Date: 31 Jan 04 - 06:26 PM You have no idea how far and wide I have searched for a large stuffed llama but none to be found. Can anyone help? I hate to settle for a teddy bear. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Tig Date: 31 Jan 04 - 05:08 PM Somebody over there please make sure he has a nice BIG teddy to hug when he needs to cough. Magician wouldn't have been half as happy (or as comfortable) without his! He's well on the mend and didn't even get the quick superservice you seem to be having Kendall. Hope to see you at the YG. Lots of love and hugs, Tigxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: harpgirl Date: 31 Jan 04 - 04:45 PM gee whiz, Kendall...if I was threaded on all the way and I wasn't a big joke here at Mudcat, I would wish you the best...anyway, at least now you have a very good shot at that nurse I suggested!! |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: kendall Date: 31 Jan 04 - 03:36 PM Actually, he is quite intelligent, like to play trivia. That is, he did until I asked him to explain the Webster-Ashburton treaty of 1843. Now, he wants to discuss Antarctica. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Peg Date: 31 Jan 04 - 01:18 PM well, I tried to post to this earlier but it did not go through!or got deleted for some reason... Damn, Kendall, are you just getting back at me cuz I keep cancelling my visit? Ya ole galoot...well, this will make that lobster dinner (er, maybe steamed haddock for you) that much more worth waiting for. Just get better soon. I worry about that roommate of yours. peg |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Stilly River Sage Date: 31 Jan 04 - 12:29 PM My mom was in for surgery (gall-bladder, after the pancreatitis calmed down) and her roommate gave her a big bear to sleep with. It was wonderfully comforting (in lieu of the pet cat, etc.) and did help with coughing and soothing some pain. Mom went home and bought herself a nice big bear that she named "Nancy" after that roommate. And in her will she actually left the bear to a friend's cat (the cat would visit when her mistress was travelling, and would curl up on the bear). While a bear might not sit well with Kendall they have large stuffed EVERYTHINGs these days--we have a couple of orcas. Find him a stuffed blue whale for during the night he needs something pillow-like to put a little extra pressure over a sore spot. Or just give him a nice pillow. SRS |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Rapparee Date: 31 Jan 04 - 12:03 PM Pillow to cough with? They gave my brother a nice big teddy bear, and he got to take it home, too. He sleeps with it every night after he dresses it in a cute little thong nightie and gives it a nice big smooch. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Deckman Date: 31 Jan 04 - 11:43 AM Here's another hospital trick I learned when Judy had her heart bi-pass surgery. On the second day of her hospital stay, I brought the most expensive, decadent, gooey chocolate cake that money could buy. I delivered it to the nurses break room at five in the morning, with a note that said, "Judy in bed 801-2 says thank you for all the great service." It was amazing, the service she got. Nurses would come in, in the quiet of the night and give her foot massages. ANYTHING she wanted was there instantly. It almost got to be embarrasing. Bob |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: catspaw49 Date: 31 Jan 04 - 11:20 AM LMAO.....Sins, you gave me a real belly laugh with the whale!!! Sitcom material.....I have this great mental image of it happening. Now if the FAA shows up at your door, it will be perfect!!!! Hanging stuff on his chair? Yeah....When Karen was in for the month long stay she started putting things the boys brought her on her IV rollaround. After awhile it became an attraction......"Got anything new today?"....."Oh, I love that thing with the pine cone." I had given her a really neat looking bear and he ended up riding on the top. One of the nurses actually took a picture! I'm sure the hospital staff is enjoying Kendall. 99% of their patients are more like his roomie or just pains in the ass. If you're different, weird, funny, whatever, I think it lightens their day (or night). AND....you always seem to get the special stuff!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: SINSULL Date: 31 Jan 04 - 10:56 AM Too late. I told him. The best was putting the star shaped weight on the hook of his wheel chair. Had the staff confused thinking it meant something. |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: Amos Date: 31 Jan 04 - 10:44 AM Great work, Sins -- now we're in for all kinds of stories about blue whales flying in from outer space. Whitly Streiber will take up residence in Portland and become an expert and do talk shows. Souvenir stands will pop up all over and telescope sales will soar like wildfire. The Skipper gets out of the hospital and he won't recognize the old place with all the uproar about flying blue whales. Just don't tell him you started it!! A |
Subject: RE: Kendall in hospital From: SINSULL Date: 31 Jan 04 - 10:33 AM Update: I visited Kendall yesterday. He has a very young and pretty Kelly waiting on him hand and foot. Coffee? Cream and Sugar???? Anything else? Fluff your pillow??? But fate has stepped in and ENTER the roommate from hell with his mouth on "automatic" (Kendall's description, not mine). He even talks while he reads the newspaper. And what does he talk about? "This is the part that will hurt the worst..." Great! And to add insult to injury, he is a football fan. Can't wait for Superbowl Sunday. I am not sure he will live to see the Superbowl. The hospital provided him with earphones for his Walkman. He has a supply of tapes. His sense of humor remains and at least one nurse takes notes so she remembers the lines when she gets home. Some of you have asked for an address: Maine Medical Center 22 Bramhall St. Portland, ME 04102 His room changes so just put Kendall Morse and he will get it. I tried to bring (take?) a large helium balloon shaped like a whale (3' of Blue Whale) but I stepped on the ribbon and it took off over South Portland. Big as it is, it will probably set off alarms at Portland Jetport. Kendall had to settle for the weight. It's the thought that counts. Late SINS |
