From the Guardian, my favourite was, (1,6,3,1,4!).
You have to be a clever bloke to tackle Aracauria, John. I had a go this week and I couldn't understand half of it when I saw the answers. I got most of Audreus yesterday!

But now we are on cryptic clues and agramans how about

Politician should lock penis in car. (5, 9)

Or...

Ow! He buggers the president. (6,1,4)

These aren't lateral.

The first one's from Araucaria in The Guardian and is, for my money, the best crossword clue ever.

Poetical scene has surprisingly chaste Lord Archer vegetating
(3, 3, 8, 12)

The second one's just an anagram

Britney Spears (13)

Some typo, Nigel! I've spent the last two days trying to shoehorn 'NONE' or something like it into your clue, and thinking 'if only it was ...JKMN...' I'd know the bl**d*n' answer!

ABCDEFGHIJLKM = "Atom"

The flower of Florence = "Arno"

Is "Overburdened Mailman" a clue ? If so, my brain is working away at concepts like, "Letters of the utmost gravity", and such like. How many letters ?

By the way, £30 (9,7,3,8) = "Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras" (three tenners <g>).
