One St Valentine's Day, back over 20 years ago now, I came home from one job with barely an hour to spend getting dressed for my other job as singer in a restaurant. I'd left out an old-fashioned dress to wear. When I shook out the dress, taking off my nurses uniform at the same time, I found that my True-love had spent the day sewing red felt hearts all over the dress. It was covered in hearts and flowers. I am so lucky. Joy

NO ONE TO TALK MY TROUBLES TO
Richard Weissman

Chorus:
No one to talk my troubles to. (Repeat)

I remember when you were lookin' up at me as though I was the only one you'd ever want to see.

(Chorus)

Now I'm getting' older and I think of what I've done. It hurts to think of good times, so I'll dream of days to come.

(Chorus)

Somewhere, I know, there's a girl I'd like to see. She may not be all I'd like her to be.
Someone to talk my troubles to. Someone to talk my troubles to.

Sometimes, I don't know what to say. Sometimes I don't know what to do.
(I need) Someone to talk my troubles to. Someone to talk my troubles to.

I'll tell ya what I remember, Bo. Tommy guns blazin'. Seven bullet-riddled bodies lyin' on the floor as the killers made their getaway. One was still alive when the cops got there. He regained consciousness in the hospital, said "I ain't gonna talk", and croaked, and it ain't been solved to this day. That was Chicago in 1929, baby. Tough town. The man behind the hit could only have been: Al Capone. He was tryin' to shut down 'Bugs' Moran and his gang and take over undisputed control of Chicago crime.

"One February evening in North Chicago, seven well-dressed men were found riddled with bullets inside the S.M.C Cartage Co. garage. They had been lined up against a wall, with their backs to their executioners and shot to death. With the exception of Dr. Reinhardt H. Schwimmer these men were mobsters working under the leadership of gangster and bootlegger, "Bugs" Moran. Within a few seconds, while staring at a bare brick wall, these seven men had become a part of Valentine's Day history: the St. Valentine's Day Massacre."

What a nice surprise, Joybell, thanks for sharing it with us.

I've told my memorable V-day story here, before. I'll go hunt it up and post a link. (oops, not that long, so here 'tis:)

The best gift Rog ever gave me was a little kid's valentine. We were already out for dinner when he finally realised what the date was; he jumped up, went across the street to a convenience store, bought a box of them, selected one, wrote a love note in French, then came back to the restaurant. I was really a bit concerned as he'd offered no explanation when he left. As soon as he reached our table, he went down on one knee, uttered some to-die-for French love pledge and gave me the valentine. I have never felt so "wooed" in my life; guess that's one good reason he is still around after almost 22 years! (This spring will be our 24th.)

Another memory: V-day was my parents' anniversary. I wonder if they ever got tired of their kids making them heart-shaped cakes?**bg** The saddest one ever, my then husband and I were taking them a cake when, on the way to their house, we drove past our old family dog, Tramp, by the side of the road. He'd passed away while out for his daily jaunt. We took him home to my parents' and buried him out on the hill. I was so sad and dad was out of town. It was hard to get him on the phone because he was working on Amchitka Island in Alaska, but I remember I finally got to tell him about Tramp, sobbing my eyes out. He reminded me of what a good life he'd had and that was a good way for him to go, out doing what he liked.
