High School Minuet

They're rioting in study hall, la la lala lala la
They're screaming in math,      "
They're holding drags in driver's ed,   "
And so they won't pass,    "

Kids' hormones are raging; they're out of control
They're cutting their classes, the teachers can't call roll
The lunchroom's run out of food, assembly hall's too small
So why do we bother coming here at all?

But teachers get even, and they hit back hard,
They put nasty marks on the old report card,
Someday in September we'll come back and then,
We'll have to start all over, and go through this whole year again.

They're rioting in study hall, la la lala lala la,
The team's full of beer,   la, etc.
What teachers don't get through to us, la....
They'll pound into us next year. (Sproing....)

(My parody, written in junior year of high school.)

Cf. "The Burning of the School" in the DT. The version I learned in childhood is a little different:

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the burning of the school.
We have tortured every teacher, we have broken every rule.
We have battered down the office doors and killed the principule.
The brats are marching home.

Glory, glory hallelujah!
Teacher hit me with a ruler.
I hit her on the bean with a rotten tangerine
And the juice came trickling down.

Ours was even more violent:

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the burning of the school!
We are killing all the teachers, we are breaking all the rules,
We have got the Vice-Principal by his family jewels,
The Class is marching on!

Glory, glory hallelu-yer,
Teacher hit me with a ruler.
Met her at the door with a loaded .44,
And she ain't gonna teach no more!

And this from little elementary school students. Amazing what the world is coming to, isn't it? (Oh, by the way, you have to sing with the accent on the second syllable in "Principal".)

We also sang in high school, to the tune of "Caissons go Rolling Along":

We are brave, we are bold, we do nothing we are told,
We are prisoners of (insert school name here).
We are sloppy, we are lazy, and we drive our teachers crazy,
We are prisoners of (insert school name here).
How proud we stand with matches in our hands,
Watching as the place is burning down (we wish!)
We are brave, we are bold, we do nothing we are told,
We are prisoners of (insert school name here).
