Subject: Lyr Req: Peace songs for kids From: 42 Date: 05 Feb 04 - 09:33 PM hi folks, I'm looking for lyrics to use with a group of 6-8 year olds with a peace/environmental theme. I'm specifically looking for a song that begins "We live on a farm floating in space" that was on a compilation tape (long since departed my abode) put out by a peace group in the early 80s. hope someone has some ideas. |

Subject: RE: Lyr ADD: Peace songs for kids From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 06 Feb 04 - 05:31 AM This Pretty Planet by John Forster and Tom Chapin This pretty planet, spinning through space You're a garden, you're a harbor, You're a holy place. Golden sun going down, gentle blue giant spin us around. All through the night, Safe till the morning light. It's one of the loveliest rounds I know. We sing it at school assemblies all the time! Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Peace songs for kids From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 07 Feb 04 - 04:36 PM Check out Fred Small's "Peace Dragon" on his live EVERYTHING POSSIBLE album. In fact, I think he wrote it specifically for singing to children. Or was inspired by a child's image. It's probably in one of his two songbooks also. -- Gary |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Peace songs for kids From: Mark Cohen Date: 09 Feb 04 - 12:25 AM The Southern Poverty Law Center's Teaching Tolerance program recently put out a CD/songbook compilation called "I Will Be Your Friend: Songs and Activities for Young Peacemakers" that should have a lot of good material for you. There are songs by Sally Rogers, Pete Seeger, and Woody Guthrie, including "Somos El Barco", "We Are All Children of Earth", "Paz y Libertad." It's available free for the asking to teachers and schools. You should be able to find out more about it at the Teaching Tolerance website. Oh, yes, and one of my songs is in it, too! (recorded by Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer) Aloha, Mark |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Peace songs for kids From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 09 Feb 04 - 06:03 AM Excellent recommendation, Mark! I use the book. Since we're sharing other peace songs than the one initially requested, here are a few others we love at my school: Peace Round by our own Jean Ritchie (kytrad) Shalom, chaverim- (sing each as a round, then sing the two together as partner songs- hauntinly beautiful!) I've got Peace like a river Rainbow Tribe by Steve Schuch (listen to a clip) Allison |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Peace songs for kids From: GUEST,PAX Date: 09 Feb 04 - 11:39 PM II think it is Malvina Reynolds; "Magic Penny" Love is something, if you give it away, give it away, give it away, Love is something if you give it away, You end up having more. For the age group - it is tried and tested. PAX |

Subject: Lyr Add: TEACHING PEACE (Red Grammer) From: GUEST Date: 10 Feb 04 - 05:44 PM Teaching Peace by Red Grammer on his cd of the same name refrain: Teaching Peace, all the world around. You and me, every city every town. One by one, in our work and in our play. We are teaching peace by what we do and what we say. We are teaching peace by what we do and what we say. It's up to us , to show we care, Reaching out to ev'ry body ev'ry where. Heart to heart and friend to friend, Circling all around the world and back again. refrain So take my hand and come along. It's time to sing the world a brand new song. So sing it loud and sing it clear All together now so everyone can hear. refrain |
