This is a long shot but here goes.

Is there such a place as Hutte River Province. It is supposed to be an independant province situated somewhere in Australia.

I suspect it may not exist, but would love to find out for sure.

Has anyone in Australia ever heard of it?

Hutt River Province Principality: This Independent State of which HRH Prince Leonard is Sovereign, is located in the West of the Australian continent.

In 1970 Leonard Casley was outraged at the government's decision to impose new grain quotas on his wheat and sheep farm. So Leonard Casley, along with his wife Shirley and seven kids, took their property out of Australia – they seceded. The property was renamed the Hutt River Province and Leonard and Shirley became Prince and Princess. Hutt River has survived as a busy tourist destination and the Casley's manage to keep farming as well. Thirty-three years after secession, Prince Leonard and his Province are still going strong.

So far they have no armed forces, although they print their own money and stamps. You can mail letters from there and use the money within the province. Joy

I don't know if Princess Shirley wears a tiara while feeding the cows. I can remember reading all about them in a women's magazine ages ago.

I do believe they do a nice wine, and that's the stuff in the bottles, not the stuff in the Mudcat BS threads (spelt whine).

Supposedly they did comply with the rules to secede, but officialdom failed to take them seriously until after the time deadline had expired.

Whatever, when you ask the Federal Government or federal Departments about Hutt River, they all

1) Deny everything
2) Put their hand in front of their face
3) Laugh hysterically
4) Say "they're all crazy you know!"
5) Change the subject

Whatever, I haven't seen them in Court for failure to pay their taxes....

Say, doesn't Hrothgar work for some Federal Dept ;-)

No, Queen Jenny, horses didn't interest me as much as the cowboy gear. What I really wanted was to be a cowboy/spaceman with a rocket-ship, a lasso, a gun, a guitar and a Good Buddy. No GIRLS though. I'd given up the idea of being a ballerina by 8, and a sensitive male with a Good Buddy was the go.
Maybe Your Royal Highness would have me in the Kingdom as a minstrel. I'd like that a lot. I could bring my Good Buddy. Joybelle
