Hey man, I'm writing to apologize for some of the things I've said recently. I meant them at the time, but that's a pretty lame excuse for losing my cool. I don't even know you, and I have you pictured as some sort of guy who--and that's what I mean. I don't know what picture I have. I don't know what turns your life has taken and I didn't bother to ask. I will argue with your views in future, but I don't want to argue with the fundamental goodness of the man behind those views. I made the statements in public, and I think it fitting and apt that I make the apology there, too.

I see by your website that you play the lap dulcimer. So do I. It would be nice if you would post your website so others can see your pictures and learn from your music experience as well. I don't know how to make blue clickies or I would. You have a very nice music website!

I may go after your viewpoints on things, but I hope never to attack you. As I have said, I would far rather share music than punches.

I've got Chuck and Peggy's CD and it is wonderful, genuine and sincere. Though we don't see eye-to-eye in a lot of ways, the music has brought us together, through the internet and mail. Thanks, Chuck!

I'm afraid that is folk music you're playing, tar heel. Which isn't always true of a lot of the stuff the people you don't like the look of play. (Though I've come across people who look just like that who seem to have a similar attitude to a lot of things to the one you've been airing recently, and I'm not too keen on it from them either.)

It can be good to air the differences from time to time, though I think it should always be done with as much respect for people we disgree with as possible - but we ought never to forget that people who disagree passionately on that stuff can have an awful lot in common, when it comes to other things. Music for a start, but not just music.

And the idea that any type of music and any type of politics are irrevocably fastened together is nonsense. With songs it can be different, but most of the time it isn't.

On New Years Eve, I met a young gal from Newfoundland who was making a home with her partner from the Comox Valley. I couldn't figure him out and delicately asked the young gal about his politics (which seemed a bit unusual). "Oh him," she said, "He's kind of a hippie-redneck." Takes all kinds.

You're welcome, Chuck, but please remember, I wholeheartedly agree with Jerry. The music is wonderful, but Chuck, the rest is intolerable. I am one of those liberals you've railed against, with beloved family members who are homosexual, persons of colour, mixed race, non-Christian, and damn good musicians. We believe in love and tolerance and it comes through in the music we share. So can you, if you give it a chance.

I am not sure what has triggered this outpouring from you, but it does your music a dis-service, as it makes it difficult for people to look beyond the hatred to give the music a chance.

When all is said and done, I hope that when I die that I don't have to listen to every foolish thing I ever said during my life. I like the way kat puts things, and having been taken to task a time or two for stuff I've said, I hope someone like kat takes the strip off me the next time I deserve it. And I don't doubt I'll need that in the future.

And tar heel, we'll be friends despite the goings on, and I'll enjoy your music. I read something you wrote about three years ago, and what I read decided for me that you have a good heart. That said, you have a good night, buddy.

My wife is black. So are many of my close friends. I also have friends and family members who are homosexual. People who hate and find it entertaining to express their hatred to hurt people will never be budies of mine. I can do my best to love them, with all my own limitations to do that, but they can never be friends. No matter how good a musician they might be. I hear the Devil is a fine fiddler.
