I'm whispering some prayers for you today.

I know how scary it is. Don't worry, there's a reason they invented morphine. Just don't stay on it too long. Its pretty scary stuff. Getting off the morphine was harder than learning to walk again. You'll be up and around before you know it. Dancing too!

I'm glad to see this surgery is finally here. The sooner it is over, the sooner you'll be up and walking and dancing like normal. Frankly, I'd be more worried about Micca and that proposed "eyebrow-ectomy" than I am about your knee surgery. The knees are easy--those eyebrows--oy!

:) Good luck to both of you in getting through this with your senses of humor intact, along with knees (and faces). And maybe we'll be able to compare notes between Kendall's hospital stay and yours. Meet us all back in the Mudcat Tavern when you're up to it (you might want to avoid that recovery ward--Nurse Ratched doesn't seem to be improving with age).

You're north of the equator, aren't you? Because if you are now is the perfect time to have orthopedic surgery. By the time you're moving around again, the daffodils will be up, and the lilacs will be budding. Meanwhile you'll be spending several cold, wet, nasty days indoors. Ain't it wonderful?!

Hope by now the chopping about is done and has gone well. You'll just have to be patient about racing around. Get high on the painkillers and you will soon be back home hugging Merlyn (and the daft old bugger too)!

If her hospital bed is like the one I've just been released from (minus a few varicose veins) she'll be able to access the internet from her bed- along with a phone line direct to her bed and a personal TV. For a price, of course! Would help pass the time though.

All the best, Khatt. Hope to hear all (?) the gory details in due course :0)

(My authority has a 'no lifting' policy- meaning you walk yourself down to theatre and talk to the surgeon on comfy chairs before climbing onto the operating table. They do wheel you back to the ward afterwards though!)

According to my files (which include ALL things) you, Mr Mudguard, reside in Germany. That, however, will not save you from my wrath. You have been added to my list, which already contains those antisocial creatures GIOK and Dave Bryant. There is an oversized enema in the refrigerator with YOUR name on it. I believe that you may be visiting the UK at some time in the future . . . . . . .

Incidently, my comments were based on the fact that the young lady person concerned may be transferred to The Mudcat Recovery Ward, where I exercise considerable power.

Interesting point, Manitas. These facilities are provided by a private company who maintain the system, two members of their staff patrolling the wards each day I was there to check you were using the facilities- so it's obviously profitable for them!

I suppose it would be less easy to install such a system in an older hospital- the infrastructure will have been built into the new Fairfield hospital in Bury, I imagine.

Hope you've eaten well today, Khatt- fasting from midnight!!

Micca...

Got everything crossed, she'll be fine... although - even more groggy, tired and grouchy when she comes too...

PS... I was extremely annoyed after my op in London last year (almost a whole year... coo). Well, before my op, I'd filled in my wish list for my prefered hospital stodge for tea... and when I came too. Hungry enough to eat 200 wilderbeast in one sitting all they brought me was a bowl of washing up water (used) which they called veg soup, a bowl of cold custard and two biscuits.... I think I almost for once had a concave tummy from the hunger...

I'd recommend a little parcel of yummies!

Say hi from me - its a long time since I met you both, but I hope she has a quick recovery!

Regards

Ella

My dear, just as soon as you are well and have full use of your leg, I need a favor. Give Micca swift kick in the ass for me huh? As a bonus you can nail him in the nads as well if you want. For me, a good kick in the ass will do. I think that after you do this you will feel even better than you expect and might even put it on your weekly schedule..........."Tuesday, 7:30 PM--Kick Micca in the ass"......It'll relax you a lot. Get well as soon as possible so you can get on this program ASAP.

Hmmm. I meant to proof that, to see if it wasn't a tad too brazen in comparing apples and oranges. I missed checking the "Preview" box or I probably would have toned it down.

(I know my bunion surgery was nothing compared to Kendall's heart surgery, but it still kept me in pain and out of commission for a couple of weeks! I expect something similar for Khatt!)

I'M HOME!!!

Thank you SO MUCH for the healing thoughts, energy and prayers...they really do work because the doctors were so impressed with my improvement so far that they have sent me home early!

I am walking with crutches and I am not to put any weight on the leg for the next 2-3 weeks. I have been signed off work for that time too so I have time to learn lots of new tune. The leg is very bruised adn I have a 6 inch scar over the knee. For those who want the gory details the surgeon boke the tibia just below the knee and moved it sideways so the whole leg lines up. The X-ray looked cool with the pins that now hold the bone together!!!

Noreen....Newham General is going through improvements and updates at the moment...nice beds with remote control but sadly no TV or internet!

Thank you to everyone who sent me CD's and Tapes and Books adn cards, they kept my mine off the most of the pain (along with the morphine!)

Thank you to Morty and Pixie who came with Micca on Saturday to visit. It was lovley to see you both again even though you did go back with Micca to drink copious amounts of alcohol and eat real food!!!....I had other visitors too but they aren't catters...yet!!

Sorcha....I got the 3 packs of black fethers in the mail today....will have plenty of time to sort my cloak out now!!

Micca brought me print off's of the thread which kept me smiling and reminding me what a wonderful place Mudcat really is!

Thank you once again, and I hope to see people soon.

Lots of Love

Khatt xxx

After a few days of sponge baths you'll be dying for a bath or showers, but don't kill yourself getting in and out of the tub. That seemed to be the hardest part for me, when I wasn't supposed to get the bandages wet.

It's good to hear that you seem to be in your usual cantankerous :-) spirits, Khatt. Are you and Micca likely to be attending Manitas & Liz's house session on Saturday ? I'm hoping to get there on the way back from the Hitchin day of song. Linda's thinking of meeting me over there as well (after a day of putting up with a load of Tom's friends who are going to be around for his birthday). If you need transport there and back let me know.

I do indeed need transport to get anywhere Dave!....Im not allowed to put any weight through my leg for the next three weeks. I know that Liz and Paul only live 10 minutes walk away but a 10 minute walk with me is over an hour!!! I hope to get over to the house sesison on the Saturday.....give me a call Dave on Friday...I'll PM you my number!

Cheers
Khatt

Just come across this Khatt, healing thoughts and wishes to you. Bear in mind that it is better to go to hospital in England than find your self in a Portugese hospital (as I did on Sunday) It was terrible - no English speaking and I was stuck on a trolley near the door all night, in emergency.

We were supposed to fly home on Monday morning, still here awaiting news from the Insurance company as to what is going to happen.

Keep on resting and Im sure than Micca is looking after you well.

Gillie

Hurrah for the Cat!! I have only just finished taping a bunch of stuff for you (gee, I'm sooo organised) I'll try getting it round to you soon. Would you like to borrow some videos/DVD's?

I shall now call for volunteers to push Cat's wheelchair up the hill at Hastings or, indeed, for those who are feeling muscular, piggyback rides for at least the last 400 yards..................anyone? I'd offer, only her legs would end up dragging along the ground (who said shortarse???? I'm vertically challenged, me).

Keep yer chin up (mind you lounging around on the sofa should make that easier....) and you want someone to go swimming with, I'm yer woman.

TTFN Lady P.

I'll take you up on the swimming offer Lady P.....my physio starts in 3 weeks so I will be swimming from about then on too!

My aim is to be well enough for Hastings! I have about 7 weeks to get my leg working and I think that should be enough. I might not make the second half of the parade.....I might cheat and go up in the cliff lift type thingy but I will definatley be there!!!!!

I know I have thanked everyone a number of times but I would like to thank you all again, and I really want to thank Micca. He has been my rock throughout my stay in hospital and now that I have come home he is looking after me without the help of the nursing staff which isn't easy. I couldn't have got through it all without him and I realise that it must have been difficult for him to see me in the state I was in.....I was very ill with the anaesthetic and morphine....He is true friend.

Watch out for tired giants if you are planning doing all of Hastings - remember to use their arms to help you.

Glad to hear all is progressing well. The Ancient One needs someone like you to care for, it's good for his karma.

Lots of love and hugs

Khatt--the good thing about how you looked and felt in the hospital--it wasn't really as long as it seemed, and as with childbirth or other messy and traumatic events, you tend to forget the discomfort pretty quickly. (Otherwise women would each only ever have one child!) Anyone who has been subjected to that morphine drip has a real good idea of how you felt--and that seems to be quite a lot of us here at the Mudcat.

Have you wandered over to visit some of the malingerers in the Mudcat Recovery Ward? It's through the back from the Mudcat Tavern. . .

Hi Khatt...

Now please DON"T try an do even a ten minute walk... I was ultra silly and stubborn and the day after I came out hospital I decided I'd walk to the shops, get some milk and a few bits and bobs. I was found halfway back home, sitting on a wall in great pain and buggered for the rest of the week. It takes a full year to recover fully and at least 6months for the anaesthetic and morphine to go out of your system.

I had quite a nice time on my morphine, but I befriended a lady in hospital who wasn't having a nice time on hers!

So, legs up lady! Take it REALLY easy and enjoy the peace and quiet for now. Especially enjoy the proper food - was your hospital Lloyd Grossman reckomended food too? Mine was, bloomin disgusting I felt like sending Lloyd a parcel of my meal and telling him to eat it. yeuchhhh

Enjoy the rest, and prepare for the phsio terrorists! eeeeeeek!

Good luck, try not to watch too much rubbish telly and enjoy the diddles!!!
Ella

Khatt - as long as you can make it to the car (I don't have a wheelchair - will a sack-trolley) - I'm even willing to reverse the car all the way along your road, if it's like it was the last time I was over there.

And after the 'asskicking', catspaw would like to show you what he can do with a rope and a measuring stick...how's your mattress, by the way...(I hear saggy is best...)

I don't know what Hastings is all about (wrong side of the pond?) but it sounds like you have enough people anxious to help that you could arrange for some sort of sedan chair, and ascend the hill Pasha-style. Is sedan chair the right term? You know what I mean, a chair supported on long poles which are hoisted on the shoulders of four strong men (ideally, four strapping young lads, handsome and half-naked...)

Dave....yes I can make it to the car...I a pro on the crutches!

Ella.....I know what you mean about the pain and the exhaustion and I am taking it real easy now!

I have spent all day in bed and have got up this evening to read through threads and possibley have something to eat.

The leg is still swollen although not as much and the bruising is coming out nicely...its all not so pretty colours! I have blisters on my hands from the crutches yesterday so I will not be doing anything until the weekend!!

Micca is doing a grand job with looking after me and trying to cheer me up. We had a lovely visit from Manitas last night and he brought me Belgian Chocolates from himself, Liz the Squeak and Limpit....they really do know me...I love chocolate!!!...Many thanks!!

Will keep you updated on my progress.

Love

Oh I forgot.....those of you who knew....the nose bleeds have just about stopped now!....I was on oxyen through a nasal tube for 4 days and one of the side effects of it is it dries out the nasal cavity and causes nose bleeds.....but that is almost better now!

.......well Noreen did ask for the 'gory' details!!!

Khatt, if your hands have blisters from the crutches then you may not have the crutches adjusted properly. Try making them longer so the work is all in your shoulders and upper arms, not in your hands and armpits. You'll feel like you've had a workout, but you shouldn't have blisters or sore hands.

Stilly....I have elbow crutches not underarm crutches so my hands and arms take all my weight.....and they are as long as they will go! There was a raised seam on one of the handles...Micca has sanded it down so its flat so I shouldn't get anymore blisters.

Ah--I hadn't thought of that. That type looks like they involve a lot more work to use. And certainly different muscles.

My pair was borrowed from the local grocery store pharmacy--a $20 refundable deposit got them for as long as I needed them. They had certainly been around the block a few times, and some of the padding was ill-fitting, but I only needed them for about 10 days. I used a pair for three months as a child, when I broke my leg, and I don't remember their being nearly as much work as they were when I used them as an adult. (I also didn't have an adult sized frame to haul around with them!)

Here we are...an update for those of you who keep asking fro one in chat and PM's

The leg is slowly getting better. The swelling in the foot has just about disappeared and the leg is covered in muticloured bruises! I am still having difficulty getting around but Micca is being good and helping me where he can. Now for more 'gory' details that Noreen wanted! The amount of morphine I have taken has had some unpleasent side effects!....constipation doesn't even describe it!! We today I finally 'went' after just over a week and it was painful, it felt as though I was passing the alps!......sorry about the amount of info...you can blame Noreen...she asked!!

Still waiting for a physio appointment.......I have that to look forward to!!

See you all soon
Love
Khatt x

Do the multicolored bruises match the colors of the stockings you wore in Portaferry? ;-)

Glad to hear there is improvement!

Btw, yesterday we had fine weather in Munich, with a view to the Alps! Passing them must be awfully painful - they are quite big!
Have a look at the panorama (the image is older and not taken by me, but it shows the Alps with Munich in foreground quite well)

Gillie....I doing good thank you. I have got more movement in the knee and the swelling has just about subsided. The bruising is going down too. The scar looks good.....the surgeon did an excellent job cosmetically....superglue has a wonderful use! I see my consultant on Thursday and have the remaining stitches taken out. I get tired really easily ...side effect of the painkillers so I spend alot of time sleeping. I should start physio in the next couple of weeks and I have 3 more weeks left until I can go back to work....although my doctor said I should be thinking about going back at the end of April not March but I will see how I feel and how I get on over the next 3 weeks.

Have a safe journey back to the UK Gillie and Magician and I hope you are feeling better soon.

Love Khatt x

Hey Khatt, glad to hear everything is still going good. Think of all that time you've got to play your fiddle... I would envy you that, but not the pain/bruises/constipation/crutches/etc! Keep up the good recovery.
