Whilst pottering around the house with BBC Radio 4 on in the background but not really paying attention I suddenly realised that something sounded familiar.

It was an old song which Cosmeotheka sang "Kangaroo Hop". I'd just caught the end of a half hour programme presented by John Peel on the music of Billy Williams called "The Man in the Velvet Suit", quite a few of whose songs were sung by Cosmotheka.

The good news is it's still on the BBC web site "listen again" page here aand will probably be there for about a week.

It was moderately interesting, I knew "when father papered the parlour, and kangaroo hop" What was an eye opener was the number of records he sold in his time. John Peel said his laugh was natural, but I wouldnt have liked to listen to it time and time again. The recordings were pretty clean for their time.

I was a bit disappointed when I listened to the programme on the archive, having just caught the end live, at how much they chatted over the music. But then again I guess Radio 4 is an informative rather than a music station.
