Subject: BS: Great Alternative Radio & TV From: GUEST Date: 01 Apr 04 - 10:39 AM And no, I don't mean NPR!!! This isn't another thread about Bob Edwards or Al Franken. This is a thread to let people know there is a whole other progressive left media universe out there, and you really don't have to look hard to find it. In other threads, I talked about the BEST alternative news and public affairs program out there these days, Democracy Now with Amy Goodman. You can find the radio or tv station nearest you that carries her morning broadcast Monday-Friday, here: Democracy Now with Amy Goodman For all you lucky DISH satellite subscribers and some cable subscribers whose public access stations carry the shows, you have access to this: Free Speech TV And there is this international progessive news weekly (sort of the tv news magazine format) program, also available through DISH and some public access stations, as well as streamed on the web, and produced by Radio Free America Productions: INN World Report Also, the excellent WorldLink TV, which should also be of great interest to people in Mudcat for their great music programming too: WorldLink TV The editor of The Progressive magazine, Matthew Rothschild, has a weekly web radio show, go here: Progressive Radio Working Assets has the WebActive web radio station, which is a production of RealNetorks, who brought you the free RealPlayer to consume media via the web: Working Asset's WebActive Radio After doing a quick surf, this seems to be the best page for links to all the stations, networks, and programs (I haven't even mentioned Jim Hightower's show, or the show CounterSpin, but both have links at this page): OpEdNews' Progressive Media links page So, as you can see, the new AirAmericaRadio network might be a good thing, because it is generating interest in alternative media sources for news, public affairs, and arts and culture programming. Which is definitely A Good Thing. But truly, they are the Johnny Come Lately crowd of mostly centrist Democrats, from what I can tell. For true alternatives to mainstream media, folks should start checking out the truly progressive folks who have been doing this stuff since the mid-90s. Alternatives to right wing mainstream media is out there, and you don't even have to look all that hard to find it! Enjoy! |
