Does anyone have the lyrics for this as sung by the Three Tenors on "The Three Tenors Christmas" cd/dvd? I can find the Brahms but no words to the Strauss music. Thanks in anticipation.....Sue.

From here:

          Wiegenlied
         August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben (1798-1874)
         Richard Strauss (1864-1949) , "Wiegenlied" , 1878, from Jugendlieder.

      Die Ähren nur noch nicken
      Das Haupt ist innen schwer;
      Die müden Blumen blicken,
      Nur schüchtern noch umher.

      Da kommen Abendwinde,
      Still wie die Engelein,
      Und wiegen sanft und linde
      Die Halm' und Blumen ein.

      Und wie die Blumen blicken,
      So schüchtern blickst du nun,
      Und wie die Ähren nicken
      Will auch dein Häuptlein ruh'n.

      Und Abendklänge schwingen
      Still wie die Engelein
      Sich um die Wieg, und singen
      Mein Kind im Schlummer ein.

          Lullaby

      Only the ears of corn still nod,
      Their heads are weighed down;
      The tired flowers seem
      To be retiring over here.

      The evening breeze comes on,
      As hushed as the little angels,
      And it gently, softly rocks
      The stalks and flowers.

      And just as the flowers seem,
      So do you seem retiring now,
      And as the ears of corn nod,
      So your little head also wants to rest.

      And the evening bells swing
      As hushed as the little angels
      At your cradle, and they sing
      My child into slumber.

Hi masato,
Many thanks for your trouble in finding these lyrics. Unfortunately the words to do not seem to match those being sung on the cd. Are there several versions of this do you know? I don't speak the language at all so I can't even paste some of the words from the cd.
Has anyone heard it and can recognise the Three Tenors version?
Thanks again....Sue

I didn't know Strauss had composed another "Wiegenlied" (Op. 41/1), which the three tenors sang.

WIEGENLIED OP. 41 NR. 1
Poema de Richard Dehmel

Träume, träume, du mein süsses Leben,
Von dem Himmel, der die Blumen bringt.
Blüten schimmern da, die leben
Von dem Lied, das deine Mutter singt.

Träume, träume, Knospe meiner Sorgen,
Von dem Tage, da die Blume spross;
Von dem hellen Blütenmorgen, Da dein Seelchen sich der Welt
erschloss.

Träume, träume, Blüte meiner Liebe,
Von der stillen, von der heilgen Nacht,
Da die Blume meiner Liebe
Diese Welt zum Himmel mir gemacht.

One word is different from the text here (Richard Fedor Leopold Dehmel):

Träume, träume, Blüte meiner Liebe,
Von der stillen, von der heilgen Nacht,
Da die Blume seiner Liebe
Diese Welt zum Himmel mir gemacht.

?- 4398 correct number

Dream, dream, my sweet life,
of the heaven that brings flowers.
Shimmering there are blossoms that shiver
to the song that your mother is singing.

Dream, dream, bud of my worries,
of the day the flower blossomed;
of the bright morning of blossoming,
when your little soul opened up to the world.

Dream, dream, blossom of my love,
of the quiet, of the holy night
when the flower of his love
made this world a heaven for me.

(Rather poor literal translation)
