Subject: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: Peter T. Date: 05 May 04 - 06:09 PM Major League Baseball has just announced that they are going to put Spider-Man logos on the bases in ball parks. Who thinks up these desecrations? Thank goodness I gave up on baseball some years ago, having been betrayed over and over again by the spiralling crassness of it all. But this is truly demented. yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: Peace Date: 05 May 04 - 06:25 PM I heard an ad years back for a barbeque sauce that went, Bar bar bar, bar bar beque Bar bar bar, bar bar beque Bar bar bar, bar bar beque . . . and faded out. I said to my wife, "Is nothing sacred anymore?" Guess not. |

Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: Blackcatter Date: 06 May 04 - 12:17 AM It's a fucking business - the owners are out to make money - what else is there to understand? Overthrow the capitalist system that's raping the world - there's your solution. Until then stop being surprised or disappointed by anything. Geez. |

Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: Rapparee Date: 06 May 04 - 09:00 AM Amd soccer (football) ain't? Wasn't a certain player just traded from Vodaphone to Siemens...oops, I meant to Madrid? How about the jockeys at the last Kentucky Derby, who wore clothing with company names? Putting Spiderman on the tops of the bases is silly -- who's going to see them? |

Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 06 May 04 - 09:46 AM Comeon, it's Spider-man! How more American can you get? I think it is great! Wake up Ed, it isn't "Americans" that started the trend of slapping logos on sports equipment. Check out any international soccer team over the last few decades. I think it is hypocritical to act surprised now, sports sold out long ago. It is a business which means the motivating factor is to make money. Winning is a by-product (or is that buy-product). I think it is great. It is Spider-man! Who doesn't love Spider-man??? |

Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: Blackcatter Date: 06 May 04 - 01:32 PM Yeah - Spiderman ads at Cinegry Field, Edison Field, Comerica Park, Wrigley Field, Busch Stadium, Pro Player Stadium, Tropicana Field, Enron Field (ha!), Coors Field, Bank One Ballpark, Qualcomm Stadium, Pac Bell Park, Network Associates Coliseum, and SAFECO Field. What are things coming to? But it has little to do with the game - the players are still trying their best. That's all I need. |

Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 06 May 04 - 02:34 PM Of course they try their best. If I was making that kind of money I would offer to sweep out the stadium after the game! |

Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 07 May 04 - 07:17 AM At least a spiderman logo will add a smidgeon of action and excitement to an otherwise static and stultifyingly boring 'game'. :0) |

Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 07 May 04 - 09:45 AM baseball choked. The bases are off-limits to Spider-man. Sorry Johnny, even with all the distractions, the game is far from borinn if you truly understand what is going on. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and there are plenty of other options. |

Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: Blackcatter Date: 07 May 04 - 12:12 PM So how much did Baseball make from Spiderman to just officially entertain the idea and then reject it - all in the national press. Gotta love this country. Instead of "In God we trust." our mottow should be "We trust that the average American is gullible." |

Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: GUEST,chinmusic Date: 07 May 04 - 04:00 PM Yip, I'll bet Rick would have loved to have thrown his two cents in on this one. Simply put, I think that the game of baseball is, and will always be great, but the business side of all sports stinks. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: How Base Can Baseball Get? From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 07 May 04 - 04:07 PM and it always has chinmusic. The owners have always invested in the game to make money. The players play the game to earn a living. No one plays professional sports JUST for the fun of it. |
