Major League Baseball has just announced that they are going to put Spider-Man logos on the bases in ball parks. Who thinks up these desecrations?

Thank goodness I gave up on baseball some years ago, having been betrayed over and over again by the spiralling crassness of it all. But this is truly demented.

Putting Spiderman on the tops of the bases is silly -- who's going to see them?

Wake up Ed, it isn't "Americans" that started the trend of slapping logos on sports equipment. Check out any international soccer team over the last few decades.

I think it is hypocritical to act surprised now, sports sold out long ago. It is a business which means the motivating factor is to make money. Winning is a by-product (or is that buy-product).

I think it is great. It is Spider-man! Who doesn't love Spider-man???

Yeah - Spiderman ads at Cinegry Field, Edison Field, Comerica Park, Wrigley Field, Busch Stadium, Pro Player Stadium, Tropicana Field, Enron Field (ha!), Coors Field, Bank One Ballpark, Qualcomm Stadium, Pac Bell Park, Network Associates Coliseum, and SAFECO Field. What are things coming to?

But it has little to do with the game - the players are still trying their best. That's all I need.

Sorry Johnny, even with all the distractions, the game is far from borinn if you truly understand what is going on.   You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and there are plenty of other options.

Yip, I'll bet Rick would have loved to have thrown his two cents in on this one. Simply put, I think that the game of baseball is, and will always be great, but the business side of all sports stinks.

and it always has chinmusic.   The owners have always invested in the game to make money. The players play the game to earn a living. No one plays professional sports JUST for the fun of it.
