'The Dimming Of The Day' - Richard Thompson (lost love, but still counts for me!)
'Mary Magdalene' - the monk whose name escapes me but Sooz will tell us.
'Delivery Delayed' - Stan Rogers (filled with amazement and love on the birth of his(?) child).
'Who Will Sing Me Lullabies?' - Kate Rusby (an eloquent expression of her love and the sadness of loss for her mate Davy Steele following his untimely death).

And, of course, Stan's '45 Years', 'Lies', and 'Lock-keeper' -absoluement!

I heard John McCutcheon sing a song called "The Old Coat" which he said in the intro was written to fill his wife's request for a love song for those who had "been round the block a bit". She was apparently complaining that all the songs on the radio were by, for and about people half her age.

Rose of My Heart is a relatively new song with an old sound. Credited to Hugh Moffat. The version I am familiar with was done by the Whitstein Brothers. Harmonies to die for. If you do a search on the title you'll find mp3 sample.

Wonderful stuff! Obviously this is going to be a great collection. (I have others to add myself, too; Bogle's "Belle of Broughton" and several different ones called "Lady of (the) Autumn" and "Darling Ailie" and "Beat of a Lover's Heart," for a few.) My preference is toward traditional, or those that have the gift of sounding traditional, like "Belle." There are some good contemporary ones too though, even "pop" like Billy Joel's "You're My Home" that definitely should be on the list.
AnneMC, there are several Civil War songs based on letters home from men who died in the war. (Maybe they wrote more letters then?) If you are interested yourself in any more of that ilk, let me know, as I know some that are fairly obscure.
Thank you all and keep them coming! (The hope is that this will develop into not only a special concert or series, but a couple of CDs.) (Male singers, though I tend to agree with Martin Carthy and many others that a song has no gender and a good singer can sing from another's viewpoint, as happens in all traditional songs. Some, though, like Linda Allen's "October Roses," change entirely with a different singer; that one was a sort of "woman power" song from her, but a wonderful grownup love song by Danny O'Flaherty.

Old Love by Neal & Leandra -- great song! Although my all-time favourite has already been mentioned: Stan Rogers's Lies. What a song! Took me months of practice before I could actually sing it without choking up. Had a friend sing it at my wedding -- along with Paxton's Home to Me is Anywhere You Are -- which, come to think of it, is another good one.

I am gathering a list of grownup love songs. There are so many that strike me as adolescent; any that focus on the physical appearance of the loved one, or involve any whining, are to my mind essentially juvenile. But what about adult songs about mature love?
