Subject: RE: BS: Blair to stand down?? From: Deckman Date: 15 May 04 - 09:01 PM As an American, and a non President bush (I refuse to catalize his name) supporter, I would welcome Blair's demise. From where I sit, it appears that Blair is President bush's strongest ally. Anything that weakens President bush's support is a plus. This war was wrong from the start and it's still wrong. Subject: RE: BS: Blair to stand down?? From: Ebbie Date: 15 May 04 - 07:55 PM What does/did Tony Blair do in private life? What would he retire to? In Bush's case- assuming he would agree to go - he will probably live on the experience the rest of his life (talk about tall tales; won't be much reality there!) and in between he'll cut brush. Most of our ex-presidents, it seems, spend a lot of time golfing. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blair to stand down?? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 15 May 04 - 07:47 PM But I'd say there is a pretty good chance he'll go before too long for all that. Once a party leader starts to be seen as a liability rather than an asset, their hold on power starts to get pretty fragile. In the background there's the Tory example - they cut down Thatcher, once it became clear she was becoming a vote loser, and were rewarded with an election victory, they failed to dispatch Major, and they went down to the worst defeat in British electoral history. Of course it's harder in the Labour Party, because, unlike the Tories these days, there isn't a straightforward constitutional way to kick a leader out, so far as I am aware. But I'm sure they'll find a way, if the European and local elections in June go badly enough. And it's even possible that, looking at reaults like that, Tony Blair might even decide to go voluntarily, though that kind of thing doesn't happen very often in politics. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blair to stand down?? From: Gareth Date: 15 May 04 - 07:04 PM Oooops Ake "Heavy rumours circulating in Westminster, concerning the imminent demise of our much loved Prime Minister,Tony Blair" I am glad to see that you have forsaken your exile in European Parts and have spent your time crawling the bars and saloons of Westminster and Islington fearlessly tracking down rumours and drunken meanderings. Or it could be you have been reading the press! I suspect you actually ment "There are rumours reported in various newspapers - That Tony Blair has some difficulties, and that in an attempt to sell newspapers the press are magnifying these" After all, thre months go the same papers were suggesting the Charles Kennedy - Leader of the Liberal Party was doomed - Hmmm ! That person is still there. I do not know, personally, what rumours are circulating, I do not know what plots are being hatched, tho I would suspect if plotd are being hatched it is the same band of usual suspects that have been plotting Blair's overthrow since the day that the Members of the Labour Party elected him. One thing I do know is that Ake is not passing on first rate information. Ake is regurtitating press stories where the press have a vested interest in trying to sell newspapers ! Gareth |

Subject: RE: BS: Blair to stand down?? From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 15 May 04 - 05:02 PM It might be a good idea if he did Ake, the way things are shaping up we could end up with the Nabob Of Slime, Michael Howard, as PM if B-Liar stays until the next election. Now there's a really scary prospect - from one who deserts his principles to one who has no principles. |
Subject: BS: Blair to stand down?? From: akenaton Date: 15 May 04 - 04:14 PM Heavy rumours circulating in Westminster, concerning the imminent demise of our much loved Prime Minister,Tony Blair. Sources close to Gordon Brown say,"Tony has been hanging out with a bad crowd, has suffered delusions of grandeur, and has become a stranger to the truth". Blairs closness to George Bush and the Iraq debacle appears to be giving the Labour Party a bad dose of "the skitters",so it looks like our beloved leader is for the chop. Memorial service at St Pauls.(Date to follow)....Ake |
