Any 'Catters have any info, lyrics on Marta, Lovely Queen of the Wild ...something?
It may have been recorded by Arthur Tracy, the Street Singer in the 30's.
Couldn't find it in the digitrad.
Thanks.

Seamus

Arthur Tracy is right, 'Marta, rambling Rose of the Wildwood' as I recall.

"Marta, with your fragrance divine,
Rosebud, of the years of my childhood,
I awake with a sigh,
For I know you are....something...."

(My father used to sing this when he was mildly drunk, the only song he ever sang. I believe it was used as the theme song for a silent movie (my father was an usher).

yours,

Peter T.

Subject: Lyr Add: MARTA (Moises Simons & L. Wolfe Gilbert)

This site (click) has lyrics, and I double-checked them for accuracy in my MCA fakebook. Another site dated the song at 1931. But Seamus, is this the "Queen of the Wild Jungle" song you wanted? It appears that the best-known recordings of this song were by Tony Martin and Arthur Tracy. http://www.classicmoviemusicals.com appears to be a very credible site - it says the song was written by Moises Simons and L. Wolfe Gilbert, 1931; and was used in the movie musical The Big Broadcast (Arthur Tracy) in 1932. It was the theme song of Arthur Tracy ("The Street Singer").

MARTA
(Moises Simons and L. Wolfe Gilbert, 1931)

Marta, rambling rose of the wildwood
Marta, with your fragrance divine
Rosebud, of the days of my childhood
Watched you bloom in the wild wood
and I hoped you'd be mine.
Marta, though your eyes beam at twilight
sparkling like each dewdrop at dawn
Marta, when I look for your love light
I awake with a sigh,
and I find you are gone

Marta, rambling rose of the wildwood
Marta, with your fragrance divine
Rosebud of the days of my childhood
Watched you bloom in the wildwood
and I hoped you'd be mine
Marta, now your eyes beam at twilight
sparkling like each dewdrop at dawn
Marta, when I look for your love light
I awake with a sigh,
and I find you are gone.

Joe, that's the very song. Thanks a million.I heard this song frequently at family singalongs growing up, and didn't hear it again until the other night at a friend's house.
He was singing fragments of it, and said it was from an operetta, or a musical play.
I thought it was not from a show, but a popular song of the '30's.
So a glass of whiskey was wagered on whether or not it is from a musical.
I guess he wins.
Oh well....I'll have to buy him one, and then have one myself to keep him company.
Then I'll learn the whole damn song and piss him off! *G*
Thanks again, Joe and everyone.

Seamus
