Hi Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, must be the echo in these hallowed halls. Do a forum search. Back awhile ago there was at ;east one long thread covering a number of versions of this song. Barry

Since the old thread ended, I've given the first (and worst) "Soldiers Joy" in the Scarce Songs file on my website. www.erols.com/olsonw

Click here to find the Jimmy Driftwood version in the database. If you use the search box in the upper-right corner of this page, you can find several other songs that use the same tune. Click here for the previous discussion.
Charlie, your request posted about ten times. I deleted all but one. I can't figure reliably out why double-posting happens. Usually, it seems to happen when people use the "back" or "refresh" button on their browser immediately after posting a message. It never happens to me. but then, I claim to be perfect....
Actually, I made so many mistakes that our Fearless Leader Max gave me an "edit" button and told me to clean up my own darn mess (and clean up after everybody else, while I'm at it).

I think it is "Refresh" that causes extra posting, Joe, not "Back". MSIE 4 however gives you a warning about reposting data when you use "Refresh".

In addition, quite often when posting one gets an error message that the server is too busy or the post didn't go through. The poster then hits post and post again trying to get his or her post submitted. However, it then turns out that the post did in fact go through, along with all of the re-posts. This has happened to me more than once, usually when I have composed a long post that I don't want to re-type.

I try to eliminate all chances of double posting by refraining from doing anything until I have re-entered the forum from scratch again. If I have a message that is long or the least bit difficult, I try to compose it in Word, then copy it here. That way, if something happens, I still have it and I don't lose it because of a power outage, lock up, illegal operation, etc. Way too often I used to lose whole songs laboriously typed in just a line or two from completion!(laborious for me, anyway)

Back on topic: I posted the url for a real audio version of Soldier's Joy by the Skillet Lickers in the other thread.
