THE ODEON: A Collection of Secular Melodies
G. J. Webb and Lowell Mason, 1837
Arranged and harmonized for four voices, designed
for adult singing schools and for social music parties.
Wilkins and Carter, New York
An early American songbook, 304 pp. May be useful for those putting together programs of 19th c. music.
G. J. Webb (1803-1887)is known for the old standby, "Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus," and other sacred songs, but he also wrote many secular songs. Lowell Mason (1792-1872) published some of the earliest songbooks for schools- see thread 69315 for song indexes for these books, provided by Masato Sakurai: Songbook Permathread and also wrote over 1600 religious songs.
