As someone who went away for awhile (for a range of serious reasons) but has returned, I respect the right to tune all this out for as long as you like, even forever. But I noted in a refreshed thread which I overlooked before that she was ill in the early summer, and was going to come back; and Tim's question (in another thread) prompts me too -- Does anyone know if she is O.K.? Yours, Peter T.

Peter...we {Ferrara...my wife..& I), received a message from her several months ago saying that she appreciated a tape we had sent her, but had simply been too ill to come down stairs and use the computer...I somehow feel that that situation continues..Shula is the sort that would be right here the moment she feels well enough.. Charlie Baum & I were discussing the posssibility of an email to ask, but I don't believe he has...I have her snail mail address, and will try to ask discretely if nothing else happens to update things...many of us hope fervently that she can rejoin us....

I sent her an e-mail today after I saw this thread, Bill. Last time I heard from her was a good 6 months ago, and she said about the same as she said to you. The best way to find out about her might be through her husband Akiba's e-mail, but I lost that address. I called her quite some ago, but talking on the phone seemed to make her out of breath.
She sure is one heck of a woman. I have a note on my bulletin board to remind me of something she told me. She found a sign in a harbor that said:
Your Are Responsible For Your Own Wake
Shula applied that to all of life - we all are responsible for everything that we do, and the effect our actions have on others. I'd say that's a pretty remarkable philosophy. I wish we all would live by a code like that.

Thanks Bill and Joe, for the prompt response. I too lost the e-mail, so resorted to the forum. Such a fine woman. I hope she is hanging in there. I pity any disease that is foolish enough to try and take her on -- it will be in for a hell of a fight. I wish her the best. Yours, Peter T.

Have you guys been reading my mind - from way over here in Oz? I was just wondering a couple of days ago how Shula is because she hasn't been around the Mudcat for quite a while.

Well, I was gone today when Shula called, but she did leave a voice mail message. Her voice doesn't sound so good, but her spirit is as strong as it always is. It makes me smile to think of her - she's quite a woman.

Ya left before I came on board, but judging by what I have seen, you are greatly loved in these parts. I am glad you got on line, because your friends have missed you. Please come back, when you can given the things that are filling your days just now.

Boy, one phone call, and I create a monster. How am I ever going to get anything done if I have to spend all my time deciphering that Shula dialect again. Shula, I think you oughta stick around - we really love you, ya know.
Better reset your cookie so your messages don't come out anonymous (not that we have to guess too hard when we see that awful dialect).
For any of you who don't understand it, what Shula said above is "hello."

if anyone is new and wonders WHO we are sending greetings to, you shoud go to the 'forum search' and put 'Shula' in the author blank...and start reading from the beginning...*smile*..Shula entertained, enlivened, teased, befuddled, stirred, and generally endeared herself here for several months before her illness made it difficult to get to the computer...

Yhose who knew her hope she will beat this and be back amoung us as soon as possible. She is one of a kind!!!

Shula, can we just come there and put the keyboard in your lap? Well, then we'd just BE there, wouldn't we...

Guess cyber-company is good sometimes. Did you ever have company and wish you could just disappear into your own room for awhile? Not wanting them to actually go away, just to be able to come back refreshed?

Dear one, Shula,

I know a kindred spirit when I read about her and read her words! I'd like to add my well wishes, too. I've a ticker needs mending, but it's not critical. My dad says about his, "it's running on about 3 cylinders".

I'd also like to say, I've not been on here a month and seeing this thread to someone whom you all love and know and care about so deeply, just confirms what I've been discovering. Mudcateers are some of the best, kindest people in the world. The care, concern, and cherishing of another is endearing and heartening. Ah, if we ruled the world, eh!?

Blessed Be, Shula.

Hello everyone, delurking for a moment to add my best wishes for Shula's recovery. May I suggest that everyone play their favorite song for her and send the positive energy of the music her way? I'm going to play "My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose." (Which is, of course, in the database.)

Well, I thought I should report that I spent a wonderful evening at Shula's house yesterday. She and her brother and I sang to 1 AM. Her husband Akiba seemed to tolerate us quite well, but his singing was rather timid....
Shula's still seriously sick, but he made it through the winter and seems to be doing pretty well. She sure can sing up a storm, and I sure had a great time.

katlaughing and I showed up here around the same time and like her, I was immediately taken over by the place. I remember having the same thoughts as she did (above) after having spent a wonderful hour or so reading as many of Shula's post as I could find. I learned much about Mudcat history and sensed the true spirit of the place on that journey...and so should you.

If you haven't done it yet, you owe it to yourself to begin your journey by clicking onto alison's link a few posts up above here. So if you're new to the 'Cat, don't miss out on the wonderful folks from the roots of our village.

Welcome back Joe and I join Mick in thanking you for the news. A good sing is therapeutic; check out the Music Therapy thread!!! Sandy P. will be overjoyed at your return as well.
