Subject: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 29 Jun 04 - 01:33 AM Happened at 1 AM. Neither Carol or I felt it but they say it was 4.5 and was centered near Troy Grove, Illinois -- where Wild Bill Hickok was from. With all this crap, who needs terrorists?? Love, Art |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: Ebbie Date: 29 Jun 04 - 01:54 AM Art, this is just a bit eerie- you're in the midwest, I believe, and I'm in Alaska, but we too had an earthquake at 1:00 last night. And I too didn't feel it, but many people did. (I had gone to bed about an hour before) Tomorrow's paper should tell me more. Come to think of it, Wild Bill probably just turned over in his grave. I suspect a lot of people aren't resting comfortably these days. |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: Rapparee Date: 29 Jun 04 - 08:54 AM It was 7+ in AK, Ebbie. No tsunamis, thankfully, in either Alaska or Illinois. I was wondering where Art felt the quake. Since Ol' Wild Bill is buried in Deadwood, South Dakota, just uphill (as I remember) from Martha Jane Canary, it mighta been him rollin' over. Lots of famous Western shootists came from the Midwest. The Earp Brothers -- the famous "Fighting Pimps" -- were from Monmouth, IL. Henry McCarty spent time in St. Louis and Indianapolis. Martha Jane her own self was from Carthage, MO. Shucks, the first train robbery in the US was in Indiana. Hmmmm...Art is in Illinois...nah, couldn't be...still, he's a Cubs fan.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: Alaska Mike Date: 29 Jun 04 - 09:57 AM Yep, 7.0 earthquake down in southeast Alaska. I didn't feel it either Ebbie. Like Rapaire said, no damage, no tsunami. I guess we lucked out again. Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: katlaughing Date: 29 Jun 04 - 10:37 AM Glad you and Carol are okay, Art! Maybe ya oughta head West, young man.**bg** My sister told me the roads north of Fairbanks are closed due to over 50 wildfires, in mostly inaccessible terrain. Lotta smoke. kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: Ebbie Date: 29 Jun 04 - 11:57 AM A little more information. The epicenter of yesterday's Alaska quake was about 250 miles south of Juneau and under the ocean rather than on land. No injuries have been reported. And the paper says that it was at almost 2:00 AM, rather than at 1:00. |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: Once Famous Date: 29 Jun 04 - 12:57 PM Art, That wasn't an eathquake. It was one big community fart from the 300K who were at Taste of Chicago on Sunday. |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 29 Jun 04 - 07:41 PM M.G.--Says something about the food being served me thinks. My legs really have spasms at night from the MS. Last night I kicked the wall so hard in my seleep Carol thought I'd "cracked-my-toe east o' Java"---. In the past I'd asked her, "Did the earth move for you?" But this time it did and we didn't know it. Serves us right for gettin' old. My upper and lower plates slid over and under each other. Went to the dentist today and didn't accept novocaine. I wanted to transcend-dental medication. ;-) Art |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: Rapparee Date: 29 Jun 04 - 10:37 PM Mississippi was up, not much, but up, when I was out that way a couple weeks ago. Be careful, Art -- it could get high enough to flood you out. Just remember what happened with Lake Agassiz not all that long ago. |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: Donuel Date: 29 Jun 04 - 11:04 PM I felt the quake we had in DC earlier this Spring. At first I thought I was having heart palpitations and then I thought the kids were climbing a bookcase but when I looked around inside and outside it had ceased. |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: Mudlark Date: 30 Jun 04 - 01:32 AM Out here on the central coast of California we are having up to 10 earthquakes a day in our county alone, most small, some as large as 3.5-4. They have finally stopped referring to them as "aftershocks" from the big 6.5 we had in Dec. that killed 2 women and caused millions in property damage. I just hope they're not foreshocks. Feeling weird vibrations is becoming commonplace. |

Subject: RE: BS: Art - first tornado-now earthquake From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 30 Jun 04 - 02:46 PM The one in Illinois was NOT connected to the New Madrid fault--or so they say. Still, one wonders about it being a foreshock of that. New Madrid is too close for comfort sometimes. Well, I'd best not let my imagination run away with this scenario. That'd be a Rohrshak (roar shock ;-)! (spell check requested) Art Thieme |
