I've followed country music for the better part of 40 years, consider myself somewhat of a historian, have a huge record collection, etc. and I can't place the song you are referring to. The usual lyric websites reveal nothing.

Can you remember anything about where you heard this song and when? Male or female? Any further info?

I have to say the same thing. Not a song I've ever heard, at least in the last 30 years. Can you give us more information?

Too bad there is no indication of when any of either BMI or ASCAP's listings had the song written.

This page (click) says the song "I Like Mountain Music" was used (successfully) in the Texas gubernatorial campaign of W. Lee O'Daniel.

    I like Mountain Music,
    Good ole Mountain Music,
Played by a real hillbilly band.
    I like bread and biscuits,
    Big, white fluffy biscuits,
    Hillbilly flour makes 'em grand.
So while we sing and play
And try to make folks happy,
    We hope you'll say,
    Please pass the biscuits, pappy!

There is a musical show in Gatlinburg, TN called Country Tonight. They put out a promotional CD which is sent to all bus tour operators that run tours for senior citizens, such as myself. The introdutory track on this CD is a medley of various mountain music songs. This song, "I Like Mountain Music" appears in this selection with the word
COUNTRY substituted for "mountain", in order to further advertise their venue. Perhaps this is where our requestor heard the song. I understand that they sing it this way during the live show as well,
SOL ZELLER

We played and sang this song in the 1950s, when I belonged to the Victorian Banjo Club. Can you imagine how it sounded played, by 200 little kids in unison on 200 banjo-mandolins? (cheap Australian-made ones). We did learn to do a mean tremello though. Joy

Bashful Brother Oswald Dobro player with Roy Acuff used to sing this number and it is on one of his own albums which I,m pretty sure is on the Rounder label, not at home at present so can't check the number.

"Ive heard Haiwaian played in the land of wicky wacky
But I'd rather hear them play
Good Old Turkey in the straw by crackey" !!!!

Not the most moving of lyrics

This is the way I learned this song back in the 1930s and I don't think there are anymore verses.I have no idea who wrote it but it was on the radios during that period

I like mountain music
Good old mountain music
When it's played by a
Real hillbilly band

I like rural rhythm
Let me play right with them
Gee but the melody is grand

I've heard Hawaiians play
On the banks of the wicky wacky
But I'm right here to say
You can't beat turkey in
The straw by cracky

I like mountain music
Good old montain music
When it's played by
A real hillbilly band

Louie Roy
