Subject: The Bird's Courting Song From: GUEST,ww Date: 11 Jul 04 - 06:11 PM I can't seem to find any history about this song or where it came from . 'The Bird's Courting Song" is also known as "The Little Leatherwinged Bat" or "Pourquoi". If anyone knows I would love to find out! |

Subject: RE: The Bird's Courting Song From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 11 Jul 04 - 06:51 PM Often collected in the 20th c., "Pourquoi" in Cox, "Crow's Song" in Randolph, "Birds Courting" in Brown, "Leatherwing" in Lomax, etc. (see Traditional Ballad Index). Supposedly tracable to old broadsides such as "Woody Querristers" (17th c.) but some of this could be coincidental. There should be information in Mudcat, but Lyrics and Knowledge Search is down at present. I hate to post duplication. |
