Subject: RE: Tune Req: Keep Those Homefires Burning (Not WWII) From: GUEST Date: 26 Dec 11 - 02:52 PM I have the same dilemma and desire to have the words/chords to Drew Emmitt's Keep Those Home Fires Burning. I've worked out almost all the lyrics from the Telluride CD, frustrated with the few words I can't get. Would you like me to post the rest of the verses? |

Subject: RE: Keep Those Homefires Burning (Not WWII song) From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 29 Jul 04 - 11:27 PM That's a kind thought, Gene, but if you check the links at the top of the page you'll find that that song has already been posted here. Can anyone help with the song that "Just Learning" asked for? |

Subject: Lyr Add: KEEP THE HOME FIRES BURNING (Ford/Novello From: GUEST,Gene Date: 29 Jul 04 - 11:19 PM KEEP THE HOME FIRES BURNING Words, Lena Guilbert Ford; Music, Ivor Novello; ©1914. 1. They were summoned from the hillside; they were called in from the glen, And the country found them ready at the stirring call for men. Let no tears add to their hardship, as the soldiers pass along, And although your heart is breaking, make it sing this cheery song: CHORUS: Keep the Home Fires Burning, while your hearts are yearning. Though your lads are far away they dream of home. There's a silver lining, through the dark cloud shining. Turn the dark cloud inside out, till the boys come home. 2. Overseas there came a pleading, "Help a nation in distress!" And we gave our glorious laddies, honour made us do no less, For no gallant son of freedom to a tyrant's yoke should bend, And a noble heart must answer to the sacred call of "Friend." CHORUS |
Subject: RE: Keep Those Homefires Burning (Not WWII song) From: GUEST,just learning Date: 29 Jul 04 - 01:27 PM Malcolm, that is exactly the CD I was referring to. I've been away for a bit, but,the first verse and chorus..... Soon the rain outside my window will turn to snow As Autumn winds chase down Aspen trees and turn their leaves to gold I can hear the geese come calling, across the open sky So wild and free, as they take flight Chorus: So keep those home fires burning Through the dark of the night Soon I'll be returnin' Be there one more time Before the mornin' light Anyway, I really dig on this song, it has a very calming effect on me. BTW, this whole CD is really very good. Also, I read some of the liner notes, apparently, Lefthand String Band was a precursor to Leftover Salmon. Drew Emmitt wrote and sang. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Keep Those Homefires Burning (Not WWII song) From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 27 Jul 04 - 09:22 PM It appears simply to be a modern piece with a derivative title. I found a sound clip, but it was of the intro only, and therefore completely useless. If "Just Learning" were to quote a few lines from the CD (which is called Telluride Bluegrass Festival - Reflections Vol. 1) there would be no need for us to speculate aimlessly. |
