It was the end of a very hard week Sooz, Accounts-time and staff down by 25%! Also too hot in the room (not the pub's fault, but it was very sweaty!). And I was driving, and you can only drink so many J2O's! :0)

The spirit was willing, but the flesh was weak! I promise to try harder in future! :0) :0)

Well I waited for all the other reviewers to have there say.

there were just over 30 people there, which is very good considering the hols, weather etc.

The music was very good, with a 50/50 mix between Accompanied singers (guitars etc) and Unaccompanied singers.

My only comment was (and this is not a critisism) the accompanied sat on one side of the room and the rest on the other. So we had all of one and all of another.
Not really sure how that could have been changed on the night, apart maybe in future the locals (mainly accompanied) not sitting together but dispersing around the room and mingling more with the visitors who are not regulars.
This was just an observation, as I know it is a very friendly club where all are welcomed and everybody gets a chance to play.

I know wait to get shot !!!!! aaaaaaah :-)

Glad you said not a criticism as I think all who were there enjoyed the evening whatever. It does feel better when the Club is full but the evening was good overall. As long as those who were there had fun..what the heck?.

GS - why would I criticise. Gainsborough Folk Club is a very unique club. I always enjoy coming over to your neck of the woods. You are very lucky to have such a good base of musicians and an enthusiastic committee. Do enjoy your stay in Devon. I believe the rain is on its way over here. Look forward to seeing you on Friday :-)

I personally enjoyed last Friday very much. As I said the music was very good.

Read again Villan, and engage brain before opening mouth! :0) I was querying the fact that, by late morning on Saturday, no-one had started the usual review thread. I said 'Was it THAT bad? John O'Hagan was good at least'. I.e. 'No, it wasn't THAT bad, at least (i.e. a minimum of -) one performer was good'. It was a general observation, not a critique of one artist's performance.

For the record, John O'Hagan was excellent - precisely as one would expect from a professional of many years' standing.

Did you know that far from being a musical ignoramus, Villan is a very, very accomplished singer? I heard him a few weeks back. It takes ages to get him to sing but when he does, you can hear a pin drop. I'd urge everyone to do their level best to cajole, beg and browbeat him next time you are in his company in order to hear his simply stunning voice.

Hi - we are working ourselves into a bit of a frenzy, in order to record in 7 days time and have become almost as massive on Skye, as we are in Market Rasen thanks to wonderful Cuillen FM.

If Villan ever appears reluctant to sing, just keep begging. He always caves in eventually though it might take hours.

Villan just doesn't see the need to put others in pain. Villan is more interested in getting more people to come and see the wonderful artists that play at Market Rasen Folk Club.
