Subject: Mudcatter Louie Roy's GREAT tape! From: katlaughing Date: 07 Aug 04 - 05:37 PM Mudcat's own Louie Roy has kindly sent me a cassette tape of him singing and picking a bunch of old great songs. I meant to tell you all about it, several weeks ago, but a few things got in the way. Anyway, Louie, who keeps himself quite busy making music with a bunch of good folks, has such a genuine, salt-of-the-earth voice and style of picking, that it made me cry when I first heard him...it reminded me of the way my dad used to sound before illness and being elderly took their toll. Here's one of the comments I sent to Louie, right after listening to his tape for the first time: You have a wonderful voice and easy-to-listen to picking..it sounds as though you could do it in your sleep...lotta years to sound that good! My grandson was fascinated and listened along, as well. Louie has given me permission to share, so here is the song list: One day at a time I'm not supposed to love you anymore Time to pay the fiddler Old fiddler Before the next teardrop falls Little boy of mine AND Teardrops in my heart Sing me back home Never nod your head This song I made Soldier's last letter with Louie's ending Santa got a DWI Never been this far before Talked to the man in the moon In a prison without wallls Four walls I still miss someone Are you mine Tears on my pillow Far side banks of Jordan Changing times Baggage coach ahead My mother was a lady Old Chisholm Trail Mother, Queen of my heart Me and my old guitar Somebody else is taking my place Only want a buddy Both sides now There goes my everything Let me call you sweetheart Take my hand (with an original addition by Louie) Put your sweet lips closer to the phone Bobby McGee Thank you, very much, Louie, for sharing. You and your music are Treasures! luvyakat |

Subject: RE: Mudcatter Louie Roy's GREAT tape! From: khandu Date: 08 Aug 04 - 08:16 PM Didn't we get website posted quite sometime back that had some of Louie Roy's picking on it? Anyone remember the URL? As I recall, it was very enjoyable sounds! ken |
Subject: RE: Mudcatter Louie Roy's GREAT tape! From: katlaughing Date: 08 Aug 04 - 09:14 PM I have transfered my copy to CD, Clinton, good point. With Louie's permission, I'd be happy to share it, either online, or via mail. Here's some info from an earlier posting this summer, by Louie, and, keep in mind, he's no spring chicken!**BG** We are still pickin and grinnin about 15 times a month so we do keep very busy. Some of the places we will play this summer besides our regular gigs 2 days at the Drain Fair,1 day at the Yoncolla Jamboree,2 days at the Riddle fair 1 day at the melon festival in Winston,1 day at Myrtle Creek Summer festival,1 day at Canyonville for Old Timers Day and 5 days at the Douglas County fair here in Roseburg and that is all we have lined up so far for the summer. Another earlier posting (2002) by Louie: The group I play with we have been playing together since 1985 and we still play at least 10 gigs a month.I am the youngest at 77. 3 excellent fiddlers age 85. 1 excellent fiddler at 78. 1 mandolin player at 78. 1 guitar player and an excellent vocalist 78. and me at 77 also a backup guitar player and a vocalist.I might add we play for all age groups and it might surprise some but many of our repeated audiences are teenagers. One other thing I might mention we always survey our audience and plan our program accordingly. And, here are the lyrics Louie wrote as a gift to Joe Offer and his bride, included on this tape: click khandu, good memory. I searched through and found a thread "new website" in which Louie had listed his own, but it doesn't exist anymore, at least at the url previously posted: http://www.geocities.com/roy12000/ kat |

Subject: RE: Mudcatter Louie Roy's GREAT tape! From: Louie Roy Date: 08 Aug 04 - 11:45 PM Kat as I told you before when I give somebody something there are no restriction and what you decide to do with this tape is up to you.In answer to khandu I recently went to DSL and in the process I lost my web page and didn't put it back on.Also Joe I do hope you'll stop by sometime on you way through I'd really enjoy pick-en and grinn-en with you and I can always get a group to play for a real shit kicking session.Louie Roy |
