Subject: BS: Taking a diversion From: nutty Date: 12 Aug 04 - 05:43 AM This thread is by way of a defence of Mudcat from those people who are always moaning about not being able to access the site and prefer to lay the blame on Max rather than look elsewhere for the answer to the problem. I am rarely unable to access Mudcat unless it is totally defunct and that does not happen all that often. What generally does tend to happen, is that traffic on the virtual highway grinds to a halt and unless you know of a suitable detour you can get stuck in an enormous traffic jam. I am not in anyway a computer technician and only run WINDOWS 98 but this is how I go about things, 1) I have a broadband connention ..... all sites can get impossibly slow without it. 2) If I can't get Mudcat in the normal way eg, www.mudcat.org/threads.cfm I try these.......... a)http://207.103.108.105/threads.cfm b)http://help.mudcat.org/threads.cfm and then click on "Lyrics & Knowledge" 3) Netscape is my default browser so if points 1 and 2 above don't work in Netscape I try again using Internet Explorer. If everything fails I log onto http://www.folkinfo.org/forum.asp or even http://www.jonbanjo.com/forum/default1.asp where I can usually find a number of Mudcatters to communicate with. |
Subject: RE: BS: Taking a diversion From: mack/misophist Date: 12 Aug 04 - 09:00 AM Please, please, please don't use Inernet Explorer! Use Firefox. Or Opera. Or Mozilla. People who use Explorer mutate into undead zombies and every sound in their vicinity goes a ¼ tone sharp. |
Subject: RE: BS: Taking a diversion From: John MacKenzie Date: 12 Aug 04 - 12:01 PM Remember also that Max is a 'one man band' as far as the physical side of the Cat is concerned, and he's not a 'computer nerd' either. So he does as much as he can, he has got a life, which is more than it would appear some guys have on here. Walk a mile in his shoes, run a house, hold down a job, spend time with your kid, give your partner a break, do some DIY round the house, then on top of that try to run a web site that has done a fair imitation of Topsy, [albeit with a little help from his friends]. It's not that easy, and I know, that even now I'm semi-retired, there still aren't enough hours in the day. Giok |
