Subject: Review: Sacred Steel From: GUEST,Tweed Date: 22 Aug 04 - 09:17 PM Usually I am found lurking in MOAB, but last nite I found myself enjoying the Sacred Steel Gospel music of the Campbell Brothers at the Bamboo Room in Lake Worth,Florida. Anyhow, I thought I'd post up here in the music threads for a change and plug the Campbell's and the revue all in one fell swoop. I hope that if any of you have the opportunity to see this band you will go and do it. They are something else altogether. Tweed |

Subject: RE: Review: Sacred Steel From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 22 Aug 04 - 09:53 PM There were several sacred steel groups at the Florida Folk Festival this year, Tweed. In fact, they had their own building where they played all day long plus performances on the other stages. They all rocked big time. Ya shoulda been there. Ya coulda met CarolC and her accordion too, though she wasn't playin' no sacred steel on it. |

Subject: RE: Review: Sacred Steel From: RangerSteve Date: 23 Aug 04 - 01:03 AM There's lots of Sacred Steel recorded by the folks at Arhoolie. IT's great stuff, but probably not as good as seeing and hearing it live. |

Subject: RE: Review: Sacred Steel From: PoppaGator Date: 23 Aug 04 - 01:18 AM Heard Sacred Steel for the first time two years ago, when the Campbell performed at the New Orleans Jazz Fetival -- Wow! Since then, I've had a couple of opportunities to witness Robert Randolph, once with his own band and once with a New Orleans all-star contingent. Even more amazing! Now that Robert is a darling of the jamband world, I suppose he has to be considered a secular "crossover" artist, even though he himself and his music are undoubtedly as spiritual as ever. |

Subject: RE: Review: Sacred Steel From: GUEST,Tweed Date: 23 Aug 04 - 10:20 AM Well, I was stunned senseless by the show the other night as were the rest of the folks in attendance. I got a short movie here if you all want to get a taste of them. It's completely unedited, begins nowhere and ends abruptly per usual, but that is my technique it seems. Denise Brown is truly something else. What a voice she has. TweedShortMovie of Campbells Tweed |
