Subject: Tech: Trend Housecall Virus Scan

For the last few weeks my email inbox has gone beserk. I get and delete about 15 emails a day. They are either blank or telling me that a message has been sent to the web mail inbox provided by my ISP. There is no such account as I have never set one up.

I did a virus scan today and it showed I have 1567 files infected with NETSKY WORM. I managed to delete all but three of these files. The remaining three all say "Unable to access" when I try to delete.

So how do I ever get rid of this Worm. People in my address book are all getting these weird emails, and the FROM line always has either a name from my address book, or one very similar. So I know I am the problem, but if I can't delete NETSKY completely, how do I stop the virus from doing it's nasty work?

Any suggestions in language that a five year old could understand would be muchly appreciated.

"unable to access" might mean they are in use, sending MORE spam...

A good virus program 'ought' to be able to get 'em out by itself...be sure you are not 'connected' when you try.

Yes, it did say "in Use" somewhere in the message relating to those three files. But how do I download a virus scan if I am not connected?
I am new to all of this so forgive the banality I am probably displaying.

Here
is the Netsky removal tool from Symantec/Norton. Sorry, but I don't think it fits the 5-year-old criteria, but any 10 year old could probably help. Good luck.

Hi, Perplexed - if you're having trouble removing a specific virus, I'd suggest that you use a tool that's designed for that virus. You can go to www.symantec.com and download a removal tool - click here. I imagine McAfee and other antivirus firms offer free tools, too.
Good luck.

Amazing!!!!!!!! I did the symantec download tool thingymabob, and it took about 15mins to successfully delete THREE files, so they must be the offending three files?
I am clean again. Thankyou for providing the cyber soap.
