I shall, on Saturday, repair to the Port of Chicago and take ship for Warren, Rhode Island. Chained to an oar in the bowels of the ship, my wife will enjoy good food and relax whilst I labor on a diet of swill and lash.

The trip is described here, and the schedule is also on that website somewhere, should anyone wish to assist in careening or watch my keelhauling.

Watch out for them pesky fresh-water killer whales that lurk around the Mackanaw Straits!

Also beware of White Squalls. Looks like a great trip, I envy you, but never mind I shall be off to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand on 4th November, Peking Duck and egg noodles for me, and no rowing involved.
Enjoy your trip
Giok

Tour the Henry Ford museum. You will not be disappointed, Rapaire. What a wonderful cruise!

Aye, aye, MM, shore leave for all hands. Do ye know of a brothel or raucous tavern dockside?

Harpgirl, I've been there and you're right! And I plan to go again on this trip. (As a side note, I inherited two cane-bottomed chairs from my mother. They were the sole survivors of a dining room set one of my ancestors was given as a wedding present back around 1856 -- and the only similar ones I've ever seen are in the HF Museum. As a further sidebar, my father-in-law was deputy post commander at Ft. Wayne -- my wife and I took a trip there once and saw the house they once lived in.)

Last fall we watched ships pass by on the Welland Canal while we waited for the drawbridge to come down. Sounds like a fantastic cruise. I second harpgirl's recommendation of the Henry Ford Museum.

If you were landing at Owego, instead of Oswego, I would recommmend the nearby Corning Museum. It's just a tad too far to walk from where you'll be.

Rapaire-

I've tried to repress this little story but since you'll be coursing through the waters between Detroit and Windsor here it is:

A man met a beautiful woman. They fell in love, and he decided he wanted to marry her right away. She protested, "But we don't know anything about each other."

He replied, "That's all right, we'll learn about each other as we go along."

So she consented, and they were married, and went on a honeymoon to a very nice Caribbean resort.

The first morning, they were lying by the pool when the husband got up off his towel, climbed up to the 10 meter board and did a two and a half tuck, entering the water perfectly, almost without a ripple. He followed that with a triple-twisting dive in jackknife position before he again straightened out and cut the water like a knife. After a few more demonstrations, he came back and lay down on his towel.

The new bride said, 'That was incredible!"

He said, "I used to be an Olympic diving champion. You see, I told you we'd learn more about each other as we went along."

So she got up, jumped in the pool and started doing laps. She was moving so fast that the froth from her pushing off at one end of the pool would hardly be gone before she was already touching the other end of the pool. She did laps in freestyle, breast stroke, even butterfly! After about thirty laps, completed in mere minutes, she climbed back out and lay down on her towel, barely breathing hard.

He said, "That was incredible! Were you an Olympic endurance swimmer?"

"No, she said, 'I was a hooker in Detroit and I worked both sides of the river."

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Too bad you aren't on Mackinac Island on the weekend. We could meet up. Pop into the Irish Pub there anyway; tell `em the band recommended it.
